Okay here's the deal.........

My regular trail is paved that will branch off into dirt. Miles and miles of either one. I usually go with someone but I am tired of trying to match schedules and times. It cuts into my riding time. I would love to just get up and take off alone.

Here's the problem. They found three bodies in the past year and a half, two on the paved part. I am not really afraid, but my sweetie really would like it if I went with someone. I do ride where the bodies were. I know this may sound stupid but......

Go or not go?

I'm getting pretty frustrated. I mean.........what are the odds? Lots of people use it on the weekends, not so much on the weekdays. I would like to go tomorrow.

I guess the question to ask is were the people killed there or is it just a convient place to dump bodies? (What a horrible question! )

Carry a big stick! Most of these psychos that attack women are wimps and they're looking for easy targets. Strap and carry some escrima sticks or bokken on your back and they'll leave you alone... My personal favorite is a 72" carbon-fibre bo staff, but kinda unwieldy to carry on a bike-ride...

Killed on the trail. Matter of fact, one woman was on the phone with her husband who was out of the country and he "witnessed" her **** and killing. She was walking as usual on her lunch hour. They caught the guy and we are awaiting sentencing as of this time.

No. Worked for them but wasn't sworn in as an officer. But even if I was, how would that pertain to riding on the trail?

What's the ratio of people that use the trail to people who wind up dead?

By contrast, there have been 3 (known) murders in my town's entire history, which basically goes back before the founding of our nation.

Personally, I'd stick with others. Any chance there's a club or group in the area you haven't hooked up with? The people you ride with don't have to be your best friends, just another person!

I'm all for riding but in this case I have to say don't do it. Unless of course you can go a few months without showering, dress in rags and basicly just look so bad that you are unappealing to any pervert out there. For some reason I doubt you would be willing to make that sacrifice though.

To me, the trick to surviving is to not set yourself up in risky situation. I would not go withought a friend if you know that it's a dangerous place. Knowledge is your friend.

YIKES. What an horrible thing for these 3 people. I'm surprised actually that they don't monitor it more.

Well, I know what my bf would say to me. "NO WAY ARE YOU RIDING THAT TRAIL BY YOURSELF" I wouldn't do it just for my own safety. That sucks that the police are not doing more to protect the people of the their town.
I wonder what it is about this trail that there happens to be crimes like this happening on it. I mean here in Colorado its pretty safe to ride just about any trail by yourself and not have any issues like this.

Georgia was having some problems witjh people on their trails a few months back. I'm not sure how or why. Just dont stop on the trails. Although I think they usually pull the wounded duck trick. Definitely good to carry something for personal defense. One of those stun guns that scrambles somebody's nerves. I wonder what happened to those devices.

If the woman you mentioned was raped/killed in broad daylight (her lunch hour), then it does sound like a potentially dangerous place. Don't go alone, sis.....and even when you do ride with others, carry mace or pepper spray at a minimum.

Take up urban assault. Much safer than trail riding past a camp full of violent criminals.
