Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

I take it you are a Coast to Coast listener? I certainly enjoyed it driving down the highway at night listenning to Art Bell to stay awake!

Nice site. I have seen the mammatocumulus clouds in person only once or twice; the sky was filled with them at my 8th grade graduation. Looked like an up-side down mattress. I regularly see lenticular clouds over the Cajon Pass, especially when there are some Santa Ana wind conditions.

Why's it odd? I see them doing it all the time. I go out on an 80-mile ride to Solvang and I see them taking off from Vandenberg AFB and start spraying in a criss-cross pattern. Clouds start forming in a pattern that looks like cross-cut potatoes. By the end of my ride, a crystal-clear sky's completely covered with clouds. Farmer's been doing it for decades now...

here's some funky ones:

Those are fake as hell, they look like Terry Gilliam's animations for Monty Python.

I see clouds like that and I expect Tornado warnings and severe thunderstorms. They indicat a LOT of energy and turbulence in the atmosphere!
