Anyone else stuck in a hotel tonight?

Just curious. I'm setting in a very crappy hotel in Lynchburg, VA. I left the house around 7:30 this morning, stopped by the bike shop around 8:00 am. I had to face the disc tabs on my new frame. Anyway, stayed there about 15 minutes and I was on my way. One wrong turn and about five hours later I made it to Peaksview Park. About an hour later I found the trail. I didn't find the start, I found it about the halfway point so I backtracked to where I thought was the beginning. About an hour and one nasty crash later I had finished a lap, at least I think I finished a lap. After that I found out that where I parked wasn't where the race started. Now I had to drive around to find the "other entrance" to the park. That took another hour and about five u-turns.

Well, now it was time to find the hotel. I actually got lucky on that one and found it in about half an hour. The one positive I have to give the hotel is that it was cheap. However, just because a hotel is named "Best Value Hotels and Suites" doesn't mean it's a "value". The place is filthy. I forgot how pleasant budget race trips are.

Anyway, I check in, take a shower and then head over to Lowe's. I needed a little something to space my cassette out about 1/32 of an inch. For some reason the cassette won't completely tighten without something. In the past I have just used a rubber band for a spacer, works perfect. This time I found some graphite banding in the Plumbing section.

Next it was time to find some food. I drove around for about an hour, couldn't find anything. I finally found the mall. I was hoping to find some type of sporting goods store as well, no luck. I really need a camelbak cleaning kit. My hose is getting pretty nasty. Anyway, they did have food. I found a Sabaro's and got some Spaghetti. Now it was time to find the hotel again. Not quite so easy this time, took me about 30 minutes and three u-turns, it should have only taken about 15 minutes.

Well, I finally made it back to the hotel and realize that their idea of a data port is a phone line. Oh well, better than nothing I guess. Next I take the wheel off the bike, take off the cassette, put my "hi tech" spacer in and reinstalled the cassette. Works perfect. Next I check the TV. Lucky me, I get about ten channels. A couple of which don't have football of nascar on.

Oh well, enough complaining. Time to relax a bit.

Nothing like a nasty hotel. Hope you get out of there soon! (and find some decent food!)

It doesn't help that there is a Wendy's next door. Now I would never eat there, but I would love to have a Frosty. I hate having to watch what I eat.

Siu, I thought I had it bad. Sucks to be you!

I've gotten cheapo salads from Wendy's. They are not too bad if you throw some nuts and avacado on...

Thats not all that bad... which reminds me of a trip to london quite sometime back now. We came in pretty late without any hotel reservations and ended up having to put up at some hotel called the Julius Caeser hotel for the night.. the place was BAD... we walked in to our room and were greeted by this upside-down lampshade they decided to stick unto the wall to make do as ceiling lighting. That was OK until we entered the toilet and realised the bath had no tap attached.. i think they wanted us to use our fingers as pliers or something. We ended up changing rooms 3 times, having to finally decide between a room with no TV but proper plumbing.. or the one with the lamp shade.... sux

I don't eat fast food though. Only reason I ate Sabaros is it was the easiest place I knew of to get pasta.

Pasta is good for before ANY kind of hard workouts. My Shihan made us eat pasta the night before our fighting tournaments.

Ack!

One rule for motel/hotels is to never lay on the blankets! They may wash the sheets, but the blankets probably never get washed!

Some things in life you don't wanna know. This is why it's always bad to...
  • Shine a black light around inside a hotel room
  • Look at tomato sauce or uncooked chicken under a microscope

Have a good evening, gentlefolk...
