this sucks

my english teacher gives us no homework, which sucks because you have nothing that will help your grade, gives like 3 quizs during a 2 week period, and then we have a summer reading test and the questions didnt even relate to the book. so i failed that test and now i have a F in that class
wtf?!?! how am i suppose to pull that up?

Pizza Man! (be nice, silly you! )

1. Read your book
2. Pay attention in class
3. Do extra credit
4. Ask your teacher how you can improve
5. Study instead of posting on BF

How are you supposed to pull your grade up? The way SBW suggested. Study. Work at it. Sorry, there's no other way.

Just keep at it. It's early in the quarter/semester. You have plenty of time to improve your grade. You certainly can't have it drop any further; it can only go up from here.

One of the really handy tricks I learned was to take some time and figure out what it is that you're trying to learn. Get some sample final-exams from previous years if they're availble. Look at the questions and understand the underlying concepts.

With a book, skim the table-of-contents first. You can figure which chapter is more important than others. High-school's the last time you're gonna be given a "formulae" of what to learn. From then on, it's all up to you.

It's the same process as eating an elephant.

I actually preferred classes like that when I was in college. I hated homework. Lecture for 8 weeks, give me a midterm, lecture 8 more weeks, take a final. 200 points possible in the entire class; 100 per test. Best things to do are pay attention in class, ask questions, talk to the professor and study. Don't count on extra credit. Most of my profs lived by the "if you didn't do it the first time, why should I give you a reward for slacking after" philosophy. Those profs that offered extra credit, usually only did so for those students that had at least a B.

my teacher is a b1tch, i asked him about the extra credit thing and he says he will think about it. i also found out that 97% of his studnets are failing and failed that test, and he is going to THINK about extra credit.

Then the teacher is failing. But still make it a contest to see how well you can do. It makes school more interesting if you treat it like the highest grades are like who can ride the fastest.

If 97% of the students failed that test, I'd be very surprised if he's going to make it count for much in the end. No teacher is going to fail that many students -- it's not just bad for the students, but for the teacher, too. My guess is he's trying to psych you guys out, to make his class seem especially hard so you'll work extra hard to get a good grade in the end. Not a nice thing to do, but you knew that already

Whenever things seem overwhelming (in life or on a bike), I just turn to the Beastie Boys:
Keep it goin', keep it goin', keep it goin FULL STEAM!

If 97% of his students continually failed, he'd be fired as an ineffective teacher! I tend to agree that he's doing the motivational jerk behavior pattern right now!

Ah yes, the worries of higher education.

Dood...count yourself lucky. One day, you'll be wishing your life was so simple and relatively worry-free. Just wait till you have a wife, kids, full time job, and a mortgage to worry about. You got it easy!

That is bogus, if many of his students are falling and i bet he knows then he should be more accomodating to the students. He is there to teach not to fail students.
