I didn't watch it. Honestly I couldn't watch anything movie or documentary relating to 9/11. I know that the money made goes towards a good cause ,but I think its too early in our lives to re-live this painful time in so many lives. I'm not saying forget it but 5 years is too soon in my mind.

Yep, from what I heard it went from what was supposed to be a true account of the 9/11 report. Then they politicized it and then they "dramatized" it, meaning it's based on a true story, but essentially a work of fiction.

And with most Hollywood stuff, even the bits of truth have probably been "dramatized" for better TV.

Much like that movie, U571 where the Hollywood dudes made out as if the Americans got hold of the Enigma machine instead of the Brits.

It was made to revise history, and shift blame away from the current administration. Why ABC would show such a trash work in prime time is just amazing. They could have shown a documentary interviewing the real people involved, but instead they ran political propaganda.

I watched the Ted Koppel program instead, it focused on what has happened to our freedoms in America since 9/11. The interviews and discussions included a broad spectrum of opinion, it was very good!

Any mention of Al Qaeda as Al Qaeda before, say, 1997, is for the most part fiction. Other than that I haven't seen ABC's paid advertisement, but real-time historical revisionism that I can watch happening right before my eyes is actually quite fascinating. All the revisionism I've been exposed to related to events that were mostly finished before I was born.

I still have to read Jason Burke's book on Al Qaeda.

The REAL story involves a romantic tale of my mom and my dad, ending with me, the One, being born on this date in 1959.

LOL

It is all the current administrations fault huh? I guess the whole idea of Islamic Jihad just started up in the past 8 years or so..

What has happened to our freedoms since 9/11... i haven't noticed alot.. I'm not a terrorist so i guess i wouldn't have .. hmm

It's amazing as many people are as clueless about history and religion as they are

Hey look, I think you accidentally must have thought this thread was in P&R too. Because it certainly doesn't make sense as a FOO topic, when there's a P&R forum a couple clicks down.

Geez, wormholes are crazy these days!

Any pilots here that can comment on cell-phone usage on a plane?

I'm not a pilot, but I know that every cell phone I've left on while in a plane has lost service less than a minute after take-off.

What about it?

I've used them on small planes and never noticed any interference with my instruments or nav systems.

From what I'm told, it's not so much the FAA that outlaws it as the FCC because you're moving so fast you jump from tower to tower making the system work harder. I don't know if this is actually a reason or not, but it is something I was told once upon a time.

My father was an airline captain for 20+ years. I can confirm that some of the older phones did indeed cause problems with the avionics of airliners. From what I have read though, newer technologies are making this less and less of a problem. Next time you complain about not being able to use your phone (as far as I know you weren't able to long before 9/11) on a plane, ask yourself if you'd like your pilots flying with nothing but a compass at 30,000ft.

I'm with cydewaze though, I barely get reception in my own apartment, never could see how you would be able to get a signal high over Nebraska anyways.

They allow you to have them once you're cruising. Just take off and landing they are barred.

Makes sense though, thats when the pilots are actually flying the plane.

Actually, everything that's happened in this country since 9/11/2001 has led to a revision of the US Constitution, and many of our rights and freedoms we're supposedly guaranteed

If they can't fly at 30,000ft with just a compass, they aren't allowed to fly at all.

You know why. Because just about every news outlet is owned by someone who's a friend of a friend....

Well, actually it hasn't. That Gonzalez has told Bush he has carte blanche, but forcing that through Congress isn't so simple. Changing the law to make past acts of torture for example, isn't going to be as easy as he thinks and quite frankly why no-one has seen fit to put a 7.62 in Gonzalez is totally beyond me. It's not like he's got a Secret Service detail.

Well, you have to sit back and ask questions when the incumbent's dad sold weapons to both sides of the Iran Iraq war, and a previous ancestor sold weapons to both sides of the Second world war in Europe......

Large passenger planes fly quite a bit higher, too far from land based cell towers for phones to work. The FCC came up with the rule against cell phone use for the reason you mention, but other after take off and before landing, they would not work anyway on most flights.
