Came home with a new toy!

So I came home with a new toy...a vintage (well nearly, the front wheel is a new deep v style 16H aero spoke wheel) Chicago made Schwinn Premis--for free! I went down to TX to speak and the coordinator of the class had this old Schwinn sitting on his front porch that an old roommate left there 2 years ago--he said I could have it. It's got spots of surface rust, but I hate to sand it down and get rid of the original paint job. I'm debating whether to restore it to working condition and use it, or get it in working condition (it needs entirely new cabling) and sell it to a collector for some good coin. I've been needing a good commuter, so I'm tempted to keep it since it was free. What think ye. I know I could post in the roadie forum, but this thread would be on page 3 within 5 minutes over there, and I might get kinder responses to an older bike here in foo.

It's a keeper! I fixed it up yesterday--re-cabled the transmission , found a spare lockring for the BB, changed the chain, trued the wheels, fixed a flat, overhauled the brake calipers (they were quite sticky), replaced the LOOK carbon with my extra mountain SPD's (I prefer them) and replaced the crank bolts with Hex crank bolts. It rides very nicely and I think I'm going to keep it since all of the surface rust will keep me from getting a decent price. Anyway, since I'm not all that much into vintageness and collector item stuff (function over form baby), I'm going to strip and de-rust that frame/fork and repaint it Aggie maroon/white(fightin' Texas Aggie class of 1997--whoop!). I'll keep the Schwinn head plate on it though.

    Go Aggies

If it will be a while before you're going to repaint it with that ghastly color scheme , take some NevrDull to that surface rust. It won't make it look like new, but it will make a huge difference.
