Fooster's Ride Report BDG's NH Shoreline Ride

So I made a trip to New Hampshire to visit my friend blondualthlongrl today.

Except for traffic around Worcester, MA the ride up was pretty easy. The town she lives in along the coast is very scenic. I must say a few things before I start the ride report:

    1. BDG is even better looking in person than in her photos. And a really nice person.
    2. She is super fit and you’d think she’s ten years younger than her actual age.
    3. She can ride! Which is the best part!

So we agree to head out for a 25 mile-ish ride on a warm, sunny, but very windy day. BDG takes lead out of the parking lot and within like 200 feet she’s cranking along at like 21 mph! I’m thinking…dam…I need about 4 miles to warm up before I start cranking out the watts! I follow her for a couple miles and the pace evens out to a comfortable 18.5 and we start chatting. The shoreline area where she lives is breath-taking, with fresh salt air, ocean views, and waves breaking all along the shore. I jump in front and pretty soon we are doing a comfortable 21mph. I turn and ask “I’m I going fast enough for you?” She says “No..you’re actually going a little too slow.” With a smirk on her face. So I bump it up to 23mph and we stay there along most of the shore. One mansion is just amazing, with a pool area that is to die for. We stopped at two state parks/recreation areas to enjoy the amazing views and soak in a little morning sunshine. Along the ride we crossed two bridges (one wooden planked and one metal grated) they were interesting to get across to say the least. We slowed down and cruised in a few sections admiring the wildlife etc. In the mid section of the ride, BDG took a few good turns at the front pulling, but I think the chance to sit in and draft off of me was too tempting, because we cranked out 22+ mph most of the way back with me in the lead. Despite the wind, it wasnt much effort to keep a 22mph pace. We did stop one last time to take a few pictures in front of the previously mentioned mansion & pool (equipped with pool-hand) before arriving back in the parking lot. The ride was fairly flat, but had some nice sections with rollers that made you put in some real effort to keep the speed consistent.
Our ride ended up being 28 miles with an average speed of 17.9mph. It was a lot of fun and I’m glad we finally got to ride together! We grabbed a quick bit to eat and then headed to the sea wall to chat and watched some local surfers enjoying the early fall waves before I headed home. I’m glad I made the trip. It was a great day for riding and hanging out with Blondie.

    Great report!

I want to ride with BDG sometime. She seems like a really nice person. Though I need to get myself in better shape first.

It was such a "wicked" ( that was for you cycle 17) day!
It was my first time meeting someone from online, I was apprehensive and excited at the same time.

I was comfortable for the very start but a little shy..

The ride with him was so pleasant but windy.. I would pull up to catch with him but quickly retrieve behind him.. it was very windy but sunny... so he fought the winds and I stayed in the warm draft of him sunbathing
He can ride... I had strapped on pedals till fully healed so no pulling motion.. you didnt know this cycle 17 but when we climb a hill.. since you werent looking, I had to stand up and gave it all I had to keep up

This was a perfect day, topped with relaxing at the beach just talking and watching the surf. I would do it again in a heart beat

You're too kind BDG! I think I'm blushing slightly.

No..I didn't know about you standing up to keep up on the hills, but I always looked back to make sure you were there and soft pedaled a little until you caught up.

In BDG's defence here, she is having to use toe straps while she finishes recovering from her achilles tendon injury, so it makes sense that the hills would be a little harder for her. She still impressed the heck out of me with her riding ability though.

Awesome! I'd like to ride w/ her too, but at those speeds, I'd have to drive. I'll have to work on the speed or put her on a low geared fixie. BTW, why didn't you take the TT w/ you?

Next time I visit Boston, I'm going to let BDG know, rent a bike, borrow my friend's car, and go riding in NH with her. Just have to make sure I can pull at 22 MPH by then.

Y'know, my friend emailed me about a ride in Boston next week (http://www.hubonwheels.com/), but the longest ride is only 40 miles. Just sayin'.

Oh, and of course, when I head out there, I'll have to go check out cycle17's neck of the woods, too. Doesn't CT have lots of rolling hills? I think I'd like riding with cycle17, as long as I can keep up.

    JSC,

You have an open invite to come ride here anytime! CT has lots of hills of every type and flavor and riding in the summer is nice. In fact, unless you're at the shoreline it's hard to find anything truly flat! You'd be a lot of fun to ride with.

You can even crash on the couch...as long as you don't snore too loud! LOL

Great... maybe next summer. Unfortunately, I didn't end up visiting Boston this summer. First time in 10 years that I didn't spend any part of the summer in Boston.

When I took a pictuire of him by the mansion we both loved.. I tried to convince him that the rather large man cleaning the pool was my cabana boy, that in fact the winters gets so cold here in NH they have to pack up a few extra pounds for safety.. but..he didnt buy it! btw where is the pic of you by the mansion?
I took him out for lunch in a surfers hang out.. in front of him, I had two bites of a muffin and a healhty drink ( got to keep a ladie's appearance) as soon as he left, I drove to Burger king and had pepsi and a couple cheeseburgers!
The reason why I didnt lead most the way was not because I couldnt .. was because I guess my tattoo was showing, which made me red for a couple miles when I found out

Thanks for sharing your adventures with us you guys! It's really cool to be able to meet each other isn't it? The pics are real nice - I hear BDG talking about the beach and all I had was my imagination. Now we can all see how beautiful it is out there. Glad you two had fun! Only wish that Pheard didn't forget his camera (actually he thought he had it in the car) the day we went bike shopping. We had such a blast that day, a couple of nuts trapped in a car screaming.....

BDG... it would have helped if they had given you the type of muffin you actually asked for eh!?

We could have went to BK. I could have found something to eat there. If I'd have known you were that hungry...we could have found some grinder shop with big fat sandwiches and fries!! hee hee and your a PEPSI lover? Me Too!! I even own stock in Pepsico. Only buy Gatorade and Pepsi...only buy Gatorade and Pepsi. ha ha

I didn't post all the pictures. I only have a dial up connection here at home. Maybe if I spent less on bicycles I could afford high speed......naaaaah bicycles. The cabana boy..er guy is in the picture of the pool though.

What route exactly did you take? I was going to go for a ride tomorrow. I am only 10 or so miles from Portsmouth (coast).
