Is there any way to stop a microwave from beeping?

I've never been fond of microwave's that beep, but unfortunatly, the one I have at home and at work both do. Where does this beeping come from and is there any way to silence it?

Note that I am not afraid of taking things apart, even if they don't belong to me.

Find the wire that goes to a speaker somewhere and cut it then.

I paid a frickin' @#$&$%* amount for this microwave and food and it's not working for me! Every single time I open the door to check on the food, it STOPS!!! Then I gotta type in the time again!! Minus the amount that's already been used. So now I gotta take notes! First 2:00 minutes, not done yet, then 1:47 then 0:35 then 2:37. Now I gotta add it all together to see if this is the right amount of time, this is so stupid! Is there a way to add a total counter to the microwave? I was thinking of using a stopwatch attached to the side of the microwave right next to the start button. Then have a Y-shaped rod attached to the front of the micro so that whenever I push the start button on the micro, it would also start the timer on the watch. Then another Y would open the door, and it would push the STOP button on the watch as well. That way, each time open & close the micro, the total cooking time would accumulate on the watch, see? Do you think I can sell and market this idea? How much can I make with it?"

Actually this is a pretty good question. You would think that somebody would have had the foresight to see a market for a microwave that has a user programmable beep. Different "ring tones" so to speak and of course the option for no sound at all.

I think the easiest way is to open the door before it finishes. Of course you will still have the beeping when you are pushing the time in. Unless of course you can find an older one with a dial on it.

Microwaves produce energy with a frequency that is not within the audible range. Therefore, microwaves cannot beep.

More of a problem when I hear other people using it, I'm within ear shot of the microwave at work. The one at home is especially annoying because if you don't open the door after it's finished, it will beep every 30 seconds three times for a few minutes. When I'm just making a cup of tea and am in the middle of reading the paper, it just plain, flat out annoys me.

Use a 1.5 kw microwave radio instead? Just stick your food in the feedhorn and transmit an AM keydown for your desired amount of time. No beeping and you can watch your food cook for about 30 seconds and then you're blind.
