Spiritual Growth Requirements

In order to complete my training to Black Belt, the below Spiritual Growth Requirements should be proven:

1. ATTENTIVE - Listening with my eyes, ears and heart.
2. RESPECT - To consider worthy of esteem or honour.
3. WISDOM - Thinking God's way.
4. LOYALTY - Standing with those I am serving in their time of need.
5. COMMITTMENT - A promise to be kept.
6. SELF CONTROL - Doing something even when I don't feel like it.
7. OBEDIENCE - Knowing and following the wishes of those responsible for me.
8. PATIENCE - Realising that my present struggles are essential for future achievement.
9. DISCERNMENT - Able to see things as they really are.
10. FAITH - Belief and conviction in God, family, friends and teachers.
11. FORGIVENESS - Treating someone as though he never hurt me.
12. COURAGE - Quality of mind which enables one to meet danger and difficulties with boldness, endurance and bravery.
13. HUMILITY - Freedom from pride and arrogance.
14. RESPONSIBILITY - Using all my energies to fulfill the expectations of those who are counting on me.
15. DETERMINATION - Breaking down a seemingly impossible task by concentrating on achievable goals.
16. GENEROSITY - Giving a gift without obligation and which requires personal sacrifice.
17. KINDNESS - Compassion...treating others as I would have them treat me.
18. INTEGRITY - Truthful words or ways.
19. VIRTUE - Moral excellence, goodness.

I have vowed to keep these as a part of me throughout my life.

Just thought I'd share this with my friends.

That is why I love the martial arts. It is not about fighting but about bettering yourself.

They never taught me that type of stuff in Kung Fu, but as dorky as it might be, Scouting did give me some principles that I try to live by.

A Scout is trustworth, helpful, friendly, courtious, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, clean, brave, and reverent. (Okay, so I'm an agnostic, but thats halfway to reverent)

They also taught me to do a good turn daily, and to always be prepared.

As dorky as it is, those are rules I try to live by.

No. 1 reminds me of "Seek first to understand, then to be understood". Something I try to achieve.

They're all well and good, and we should aspire to them.... but to get you black belt you have one additional requirement - to be able to kick the snot out of all the color belts

I completed these requirements two years ago. Thank you everyone for your support but I just wanted to share with you what I truly believe in. Sometimes things happen in life that may challenge those beliefs but as I went over these again in my mind (I have them memorized), I just HAD to share it with you all. These are my life's guidelines. These are what make me the person I am.

I don't know anything about where Siu studies martial arts, but in the traditional sense, a blackbelt is extremely difficult to get. Back before martial arts were westernised, a black belt really meant something. Nowadays, it seems like a lot of schools have an 18 month plan.

Excuse me. Five years. Studying every day. Each of those had to be proven.

Then of course there was the physical part and the history as well.

Sometimes things happen in life that may challenge those beliefs. I am not perfect which is why I have to remember them.

As for me having contact with you. I don't recall that time. Will you please elaborate? Or could it be that I was joking with you and you didn't see it as such? Either way I apologize.

edit: I just went through your posts and found you mainly visit Road and SoCal, which I hardly ever visit. Then I found a posting in mtn biking where I did reply and I jokingly said "yeah, and so? (sarcastic bitterness)".

Please note that it was sarcastic and not genuine.
