Can one O.D. on caffeine?

So last week I ordered my own ibrik and 4 bags of turkish coffee to make my own turkish coffee (the right way). I got the jumbo sized ibrik so I didn't have to settle for just one of those tiny little cups of turkish coffee.

I make my first batch this morning, it just about completely fills my 24oz. travel mug. I probably had (and drank) about 20 oz. of turkish coffee.

I now want to go outside and run a marathon or two. Maybe a bike ride to Michigan.

OMG....this is waaaaaaaay too much caffeine high. I need to cut the amount back next time.

Caffeine has its own built OD prevention....

If your hand is shaking too much to take another drink, you're nearing an OD and the drink will spill over the sides to prevent you from consuming too much.

If you can still imbibe, then you're in the clear. Rage on!!!!

Apparently you've never had turkish coffee. Turkish coffee makes espresso taste like water.

Of course you can OD...it's a stimulant....too much and you get a heart attack.

Of course, it takes a prety righteous dose to get that far. Slam down two liters of espresso in a 15min period, and you will probably end up in an ER.

<--Check out my avatar. That's my caffeinated beverage of choice. I have never OD'd before, but I pull all nighters occaisionally and hit the caffeine pretty hard.

I hope you bought whole beans and are grinding them fresh before each cup! If not, you're missing out. Turkish coffee needs to be so finely ground that it gets weak long before other types of pre-ground coffee.

And FWIW, to disspell a myth, espresso doesn't really have that much caffine in it at all. Plenty of drip coffee is much, much stronger per serving.

I wish I could have. I looked a bit before buying and planned on going that route, however I found that standard coffee grinder can't grind that fine. I wasn't planning on spending $200 on a coffee grinder to be able to grind that fine (or using a hand mill which takes FOREVER). So I opted to buy pre-ground.

I do buy my coffee in whole bean form and grind per pot though (using my press pot to make it...got rid of drip coffee maker for higher quality press pot coffee).

Just take the next step and get an espresso machine already! Then you'll have more than enough reason to justify a $150 grinder.

Eating roasted coffee beans will do the trick.

Not that you want to do the trick, but it's a powerful buzzzz, and the taste takes some getting used to. Perfect for a mid-ride booster.

Yeah, but it's not just caffeine in that junk. Who knows how the other additives react with eachother and at that concentration. Probably safer snorting a rail of cocaine.

Well, what do you use in your espresso machine? Preground? That's almost as bad as pods.

You're making me self-concious about my coffee.

What's your opinion on coffee mills? Can you dial in how fine/coarse your grind is?
