Quit fooling around on the internet and get back to work. Less than 3 months to go in fiscal year 2006, so we need some productivity stat!

Nope. I hope I'm never in management. My bosses put up with so much BS from my coworkers that it's ridiculous.

Until September I ran an entire IT Dept. I quit to go back to 'limbo' as a senior developer. I still have to run projects and manage folks a bit...but it's really not management...just the old guy keeping the kids from doing something stoopid and teaching them how to be a lazy old guy themselves someday.

I usually like management. I think i'd like to try restaurant management or project management.
I've been in managerial and training positions most of my life whether official or unofficial.

Not technically a "manager," but I do have a certain amount of authority over n00bie mechanics at my shop. I'm a pretty nice guy, but don't be lazy or I will not be afraid to chew your ass out or tell you to go home. I am a very hard worker, and my biggest pet peeve is when I have to waste my time and effort to pick up someone else's slack. Also, don't steal my tools and let me find out or I will make you a free appointment at the dentist's.

I'm the IT Manager at work. I get to manage the entire IT team. I'm responsible for scheduling, and making sure that everything is accomplished in a reasonable time, as well as making sure that all the systems are up to date and secure.

(The IT team, by the way, consists of exactly one person. ME.)

Nope, and DARN glad! As a Federal Government employee, I don't ever want to get into management either, not when I can stay on a technical track reaching the same GS levels and receiving the same pay. The reward for the heartache just isn't there.

Not management technically, but I am in charge of keeping the associates and operators in line with our test processes.

That means I get to chew some rump every once in a while. ...the past week has been constant rump chewing (new poeple, and most of them are not learning from their repeated mistakes), and I'm starting to get sick and tired of the taste of over-chewn rump.

I'm a teacher and in the past have been asked to consider management. My response has always been, "No way!" Makes no sense to put up with unruly children, demanding parents, complaining teachers and superintendents, all for 10 - 15k extra, longer working hours and shorter vacations.

That is the way it is for most Management positions i think. More money, more hours more responsibility and less time with family. I have made the smart long-term decision of staying an employee at my work area.

Not far from being Management, and I still don't know if it will be a good thing or a bad thing.

I'm border-line myself. An i like it, managers and employees treat me like a manager. I have the knowledge and maturity of a manager. Yet i can still be a goon at work and make people laugh, which i feel is my job any-way.

I hear ya, unless they will allow me to wear silly ties. Like light-up ties, pokadot ties, crazy stuff i know they will not let my act like a clown as a member of management. Well if they are desperate and they know i am dam good at what i do they just might let me .
