I stepped down.

Today I stepped down as the Lead Paralegal of my firm. There was a situation with a procedure that one of the paralegals didn't agree with and my boss didn't back me up. So I said I was done.
Its pretty sad but I'm actually pretty happy so that I can just come to work and do my thing.

Just so you know my position isn't anything special but its no fun when your boss won't even back you up on something when they said they would. Most people view me as the TIGER against the mouse and this may be but at least you know the work will get done!!!

Here is the kicker THEY NEED ME TO STAY. I run alot of stuff my boss has no idea of doing. I come in at 6am. to run programs before anyone gets here. The women whom has worked here for 21years left in July. I took over MUCH of her job I'm the only one that knows it. So I think it won't be a big deal.

awww snowy, tough decision you made. You had the guts to stand up for what you felt was right.
Sorry that you dont have a boss to support you, hopefully, he is going to get the bigger picture when you return on Monday.

Yes there are a few people but I'm the only one willing to stand up.

I'm proud of you for standing up for what you believe in Snowy.

Foo...ATTENTION!! Present ARMS! Order ARMS! DissssssMISSED!

When working in a law firm (as I assume you do), don't expect your bosses to be polished leaders or managers - it isn't their core competency. You gotta lead from below...by example, as you have done.

Wow, your so ever right. Attorneys are not great leaders and I say this cause they don't have the best people skills. They are however good at doing their job.

That sounds like par for the course, People great at their job with no clue as to what happens any where else. I hope there is no backlash against you for it.

I am very lucky that my bosses know what I do and also trust me to get on with it.

This is, of course, true across the board. Try working in a firm run by engineers.

Snowy I just did the same thing about a month ago. My head boss didn't back me up as well when I asked for it. He figured I could handle it on my own but it was not MY place to be head boss. My replacement is having a real hard time adjusting (he has 7 years experience) so I have to help him through with it. The thing is, there is so much relief from not having as much stress since the responsibilities let up.

The hardest part of the adjustment was learning to NOT CARE. It was really hard for me to NOT do the paperwork and the numbers (it was being neglected), NOT do to the safety logs, weights/measures and temp checks (again, neglected), NOT take initiative to take care of upcoming events and to NOT pay attention to the losses (losses are at an all time high, a record for my location).

I found that slowly they are coming back to me and "asking" favors. For example, I was asked by my replacement to attend a management meeting just yesterday. I did it as a favor but had to remind myself to try not to get too involved.

The good thing about it all, is that I can easily say when questioned about something not completed: "It wasn't my responsiblity, talk to your assisstant." They are used to me completing special projects.

It will take some time but you will feel better later on. Just do your thing and try not to care.

Siu, I hear you on that. I think I care WAY to much and it makes me mad the some don't care like me. My boss asked me to think about it over the weekend and I will. Its will help to get out of here too and clear my mind.

I agree Portis. I found myself taking my paperwork home and spending a lot of time on it. That time was not included on my paycheck.
