    Netflix question...

I signed up for the 3-at-a-time option a couple months back. Up until the last month or 2, I would get 3 discs more or less at the same time with minimal wait from when I sent them out to when I recieved them.

Well, I guess I've been cycling through them too quickly because they've cut me back quite a bit. Now it takes nearly a week to get a new disc. Plus, now I rarely have more than 2 discs at a time. It's not really that big a deal, but it does irk me a bit to be paying for a service I'm not getting. I might cut it back to 2 discs at a time and see what they do.

I've read of other people having this problem. Just curious to see what your experiences are.

I use blockbuster online and tend to keep movies for a week or more, and they ship immediately. These companies are in the business to make money and have figured out where their profit point is, and it seems like you have reached that point.

Yeah, that's what I'm figuring. I haven't read my service contract so I don't know if this is something they said they'd do if I reached a certain point of renting too much.

    Has anyone here tried Intelliflix?

If you scaled back, you would probably get 2 at a time.

Thing is some users are not profitable, due to chain-viewing. They expected most poeple to average aobut 4 a week...but some people are pulling as many as 15 a week.

Yeah it's misleading to say "all you can watch" and then scale back, but it's also a huge pain in the rump when people sit there and see how far they can go...I'm not saying you are, but a person I used to work with did just that....he was fortunate to know of a mail pickup that happened after his drop...so he would rip all the DVDs to his PC to view later (then delete, he wasn't a pirate, just annoying), and drop them off to be sent back. He was avaraging around 40 discs a month. Of course he whined badly when he got throttled....I told him he was paying less than 50cents per rental, that's ridiculously low, and to get over it.

I've had the same 3 discs from netflix for over 2 months now...I need to get off my butt and find my return envelope.

I wasn't that high. Around 5 to 6 in a week as I had been renting series discs (Connections 2, yay!). And now I'm hitting up older 80's movies that might be low in stock at most shipping centers which might account for some of the wait.

I might downgrade to 2 at a time and see what they do...

Could be...the rarer stuff usually comes form a few "main" hubs, while all the smaller hubs have the more popular stuff. The super rare stuff come in from their main warehouse.

I've had some horror titles come from there before, 1 week ship time It's alright though....now if only they would stock the original Legend of Samhain, and not the hackjob version they have in stock.

I have been with netflix a few years now under the same 3 disc plan. There has been only a couple of times it took a while to get my discs, and usually they gave me a free 4th disc to make up for the delay.

You just answered your own question. The rarer movies come from other wharehouses. Congrats.

FWIW, I had blockbuster online (same deal, 3 at a time for about $15 or whatever) for about a year before I ditched it. After the novelty of being able to watch all sorts of crap whenever I wanted to wore off, it got the point where I'd more or less have to force myself to queue stuff up. The last two months before I cancelled, my queue was empty and I had one movie sitting around that I didn't even really want to watch. I realized I'd just paid $30 for that movie to sit for two months, so I cancelled.

I can definitely say it was nice at first, though. Being able to watch all 4 seasons - plus both movies - of Ghost in the Shell, more or less back to back, was pretty nice.

Yes, but they'll readily admit that they throttle back and/or ship from distant warehouses to purposefully cause delay when a user is hitting really high numbers.

Not all of them were older movies.

Found an article on Netflix "throttling." Looks like what I've run into.

That's kind of what I'm in it for. More series than movies. I was heartbroken to find out that the 2nd season of Twin Peaks will most likely never get released...

We rent DVDs either from the independent video store, or from the DVDPlay kiosk at the local grocery store. The thing I like about the kiosk is that it's $1 per day. It's much cheaper than either the Netflix or Blockbuster program.

netflix is making me mad. I used to get movies on monday, watch them, mail them out on tuesday and get the new one on thursday or friday. Now I mail them out and get the new one the following tuesday. Thats ridiculous.

I guess I shouldn't complain. I'm still spending less than when I was renting from the local stores and have a hell of a lot better selection.

I might give Intelliflix a spin.

I only use netflix for a couple of months and then cancel, I average 24-30 Disc's a month with the three a time, then then start slowing them down, i can cancel, the day before my next payment is due and rejoin a few months later.

I believe that there is a class action in the works for their misleading advertising.

Yeah...read an article on their throttling a while back. Had to do with my field of work (identifying the few customers that carry an unusally high cost burden compared to the revenue they generate). You guys referenced some articles, may be the same one I read, but I believe they were playing with a break-even of around 27 movies a month. Over that and they throttle.

+1 on the class action suit.

Other than this, I have yet to see any actual numbers referenced. I'm guessing I was between 20 and 25 a month at my highest. That lasted between 2 and 3 months before they cut me back.

I've seen some stuff on the class action lawsuit. It amounted to Netflix giving away 1 month trial issues or 1 month upgrades without any admission of false advertising. I haven't seeen if it caused them to change their methods or forced them to include any mention of it in their user contract.

flyingscotsman, how fast does Netflix start to cut you off when you re-sign?

Sorry for delay in replying, I only take netflix for two months now before cancelling again as they slow down in the third month usually by the tenth week it was down to a crawl.

I cancel a day before payment for 3rd month will be taken out of cc.
