Celebrating a mortgage payoff...ideas?

Well, as of about 20 minutes ago my wife and I entered a world free of debt. We are looking for ideas (inexpensive) for celebrating the payoff. Anyone have any grand ideas other than the ceremonial burning of the note...(after the lien is released on the property records of course)?

Some sort of effigy and party is in order. Maybe an effigy of banker looking guy with the name of the mortgage company that you burn at a party with your friends.

Go to the nearest 7-11 or convenience store and buy Slurpees for everyone there.

Buy each ohter a new bike!!!

Pick up a round of drinks for the entire restaurant when you go out to dinner tonight. On second thought...I like the bike idea better.

1) Burn down the sucker and crank up Talking Heads "Burning Down The House!"

2) Get new mortgage.

3) Wait 15-30 years.

4) Repeat

Take a giant "HOME SWEET HOME" banner and string it across the front of your house!

Sign in the front yard "Don't Laugh, It's Paid For"

Congrats, after the celebration go to a good financial advisor and set up a monthly investment program that is close to your mortgage payment.

When we paid off our house 3 months ago we had a mortgage party. Funny thing is, I received as my birthday gift several years ago a 1983 Dom Perrignon and I promised my wife that I'm going to save that bottle for the day we pay off our house. Well, on that day we decided to save that bottle for another occassion.......hope it's still good and hadn't turned into carbonated vinegar...

It took me a long time to stop saving wine for a special occasion. Drink it, now; buy more, drink later.

buy an investment property. I.e a condo in the mountains. And if that condo is in the Colorado Rockies, let me know -- I know someone who can help maintain/watch it

That will have to wait at least another month...no alcohol when pregnant. I think I like the idea of a nice dinner out and perhaps a weekend getaway, but due to travel restrictions the weekend getaway will have to wait too.

Investment plan is already in place, and part of that investment plan includes hiring someone to do housework. This is an investment in happiness, not a financial investment. We aren't sure if we are going to go for a weekly or ever other week cleaning, but either is better than the complete do it yourself plan

I would buy a new bike, but I just bought one last month, and my wife says 3 for me and 2 for her is enough. maybe our 2.5 year old will be ready for a trail-a-bike soon and I can buy one of those! (she already has a 12" bike).
