Ready to be taken hostage by America's youth?

Halloween...here it is again.

I love the cute little kids who dress up and love Halloween. This thread is not about them.

I hate being taken hostage by this holiday......I can't stand:
  • The kid who keeps coming back again and again because you have good candy
  • The kids who whine because you only gave them one Reeces Peanutbutter Cup
  • The older kids who don't even dress up and expect candy
  • The older kids who want your candy but won't even say "trick or treat"
  • The tricksters who knock down decoration from houses
  • The parents who are with kids who aren't even in costume

Don't these ones just annoy you? And I see some of each of them every year!

Yo KT,

Keep an open heart and mind Amigo. Some of those kids or their parent/parents may not have money for a costume. Or the parent may not have enough free time to make one for their kids. It is all good and it is just one night. Show them some love!!!!! I go out of my way to make sure I have good candy and give out a few pieces to each kid. When I am out of candy, the lights go off and the door gets closed. I loves me some Halloween.

Jeff

One begets the other. Open up the goody bag and give 'em two Reese's!

We let the kids reach in and get their own out of the bowl. For the most part they only take one piece and I have to tell them to take some more. It's rare the kids who go for the gusto and a whole handful of candy, but it's kind of funny watching their faces as they think they are committing highway robbery....

I love messing with the kids who come to the door and will even ask the kids who don't have costumes what they are dressed up as and that they'll get candy once they give me an answer. It's funny what they come up with just for some Nerds and SweeTarts.

Just remember this.... Being generous on Halloween pays dividends all year long!

Maybe I should have explained more.

You give them one, and they complain they want two.
You give them two and they complain they wanted three or four.
You give them three or four.....you get the picture.

I guess that's a point I hadn't considered....at least for that particular point.

I actually like Halloween for the most part....it's the few rotten apples that annoy me. I didn't say they ruined it for me....just annoys me a bit.

That's why my favorite part of Halloween is waiting in the bushes ready to soak vandals with the hose! Bwahahaha!!

That's why I don't go home on Halloween...i just dress up as a "bike rider", and run around going MUHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA in the night, like some kind of cracked-out loony.

Of course at the company halloween party, I am going there as "the Invisible Man"

....note, this cat does NOT do company parties

I wished we got kiddies at the door. I think its so cute to see them dressed up. But we live in a Condo and not many kids around. I think they much rather go to the houses around us.

There are many good reasons why I should never be allowed to own a chainsaw. Halloween is one of them. Cuts heal, severed limbs can be reattached. But the memories provoked by the sight of a six foot man in a hockey mask chasing you down the street with a chainsaw in his hands while cackling maniacally may linger forever....

Seriously though, I usually turn the lights out once the younger kids are gone and the teenagers start coming around. In my neighborhood, we get a lot of visits from the poorer Hispanic neighborhoods to the south and east. I think this is really the only occasion for a lot of them to get treats like this, so I try to be generous. I usually sit out front with a book of scary stories and wait for them to come by. That said, I usually don't just offer the bowl to them because I've seen too many kids drop their goody bags and try to dive in with both hands when I do.

I would be the one dressed in a panda costume going after people with a chainsaw, while shouting "I am a saaaaad panda!" at the top of my lungs.

My brothers hunting buddy, who put the RED in redneck dressed as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy one year, all the way down to the working chainsaw, from which he removed the chain. My brother said it was hilarious to see the party empty out when George fired up the saw.

Halloween is probably my favorite holiday..
yep, the candies... love seing my friends in costumes.
The haunted hotel is fun too.
I love the little kids all excited.. love to find the best looking house around the neiborhood.

I dont like teanagers trick or treating, I feel like KT, they dont even bother to dress up and take the candies away from the little one who really believe there is something magical about halloween.
Hate people who TP houses and there were tons of pumpkins smash??( maybe wrong spelling) all around the schools today..
Over all, halloween is cool... minus the teanagers ( and yes, I have one and she was told she cant trick or treat... mean mom)
( OK KT.. Im asking.. was it smash?)

Man, you really need a refresher on the true meaning of Christmas. Might I suggest the following courtesy of Linus Van Pelt. Always puts things into perspective, somehow.

I may be stuck at work and miss the trick or treaters this year. If so I will truely miss them.

I'll miss the older kids who are out with their younger siblings, actually having a good time doing something they are 'too old for'.

I'll miss the young kids whose parents remind them to say 'thank you'

I'll miss the groups of only older kids, all in costume, who are capturing some of the last simple joys of childhood.

I'll especially miss the kids who forget about the candy and pet my two pure bred American Attention Hounds.

But most of all I'll miss the chance to relive some happy childhood times from the other side.

I don't think that is going to hurt anyone except possibly you. You sound kinda bitter, i can relate because i have those tendancies as well. If it weren't for my kids I'd probably be a crotchety old fart.

But I love Halloween and Christmas because my kids love it so much. It reminds me of when i was young and how exciting those two days were. So I try and make them as special as possible for my kids. My wife and I take them trick or treating every year and i video the whole proceedings. Some day when they are gone, i will be able to go back and still enjoy these moments.
