    Anyone else here keep aquariums???

I just thought I would check to see how many others out there enjoy keeping fish. I have been keeping them for about six years now and really enjoy it. It's a great way to wind down in the evenings, just setting back and watching them interact. My newest tank is a 210 gallon agressive cichlid tank. It's awesome watching these guys establish the pecking order.

Anyway, here is a crappy picture of it as well as an even crappier video.

    Here is the video.

Also, here are a couple of pictures of my red devil, Lucy (short for Lucifer). I have had her for almost five years now.

I may be fat but I'm slow enough to make up for it.

bdg - looking forward to seeing your tank. What kind of fish do you keep?

Oh, here is my saltwater reef tank. Unfortunately I decided to get rid of it a few months back. I am out of town too much to keep such a complicated tank. It seemed like everytime I went out of town my wife would call me with a problem.

well I have a few kind, but I have 2 discus that keeps having babies, that has been a projet and a half, they protect them for a while and then they give up and end up eating thier own babies.. so after 3 attemps in trying to save the babies, we finally succeeded, we "pumped" them out of this tank into a small tank and kept them separated from the other fish of the small tank, all except for one made it, so now I have about 20 new discus growing and that's been a lot of fun to watch.

We used to have a red devil. That bastard would kill anything we put in the tank and it would follow you as you walked across, bumping at the glass.

WOW, I'm impressed. Breeding discus is no easy task. Takes some time and effort keeping the water conditions stable enough to make them happy.

Yeah, they aren't exactly the most gentle fish out there. They are awesome though. Lucy has a 55 to herself. I am hoping to add her to the 210 once the occupants grow up some though. I'll be keeping a close eye on them. If there is a problem I will be removing her and probably buy her a 90 gallon tank of her own.

I used to have a small tank, but was entirely too busy to keep it up. Not sure if I have any photos any more. I'll see what I have when I get home.

Yeah, it certainly was an interesting fish. Especially when it would move the gravel from one side of the tank to the other, mouthful by mouthful, to cover up its pipe/home.

we have a simple 10 gallon with just one fish right now. we when first got the tank all the fish we put in there kept dying. it was sad. one fish stayed healthy though and i think the tank is probably stable enough to introduce a few new fish. we got a bio-wheel recently, those things rock.

Actually, fish are shipped all over the world every day by air and by truck. You local pet store no doubt either meets a plane at the air freight terminal or waits for UPS, FEDEX or DHL to deliver weekly.

Styrofoam cooler taped securely shut and oxygen rich water is all it takes. Mark it "Live Fish" and they should do fine. Make certain you have at least a gallon of water per inch of fish length.

If you are actually moving Discus, make sure to coordinate shipping so that someone is at the destination and able to get the fish into the new tank as soon as possible. My experience is that Discus are somewhat more intolerant of chemnical changes in water than might be other fish.

What webist said, and I'll take a couple of those!

Right now I have a 29 gallon freshwater setup. Mostly tetras, our water conditions favor them and barbs and angels, and discus! Livebearers don't do so well here without constant water mods. I've kept saltwater tanks, as well as African cichlids, tanks up to 75 gallons. At one point I had a local native species tank, with a couple of small bass, bluegills, crappies, vegitation, etc. It was a cool tank but sometimes at night the bass would get roudy! My favorite fish ever was my black volitan lion fish that I had for several years. My moray went nuts one night and all I know is that I found the lion with his dorsal spines crushed and the moray flopping around on the floor. I ended up getting bit and pissed, sold the moray, and buried the lion.

Yup, people ship fish daily. I ordered five fish ($250) from Jeff Rapps, a very well known cichlid breeder and importer last week. I received them on Friday in perfect condition. Overnight shipping did hurt a bit though, shipping was $75 from New Jersey to West Virginia.

I kept some weird wingless wasps that looked like big fuzzy ants in an aquarium for a year. Does that count?
