Ok, I'm fed up. This is NOT my night! Several things went totally wrong. . .
I was supposed to be in Richmond tomorrow morning to do an interview for a contract with a new client, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
So, I get out to the airport this afternoon. First problem - I'd heard that they were letting "small quantities" of gels and liquids in carryons (I don't check for one day trips), so I packed toothpaste, deodorant, hair gel, etc. - stuff that, duing the "ban" period, I'd been buying once I arrived at my destination. I get up to security, and I'm running a bit late. Then, they explain what the regulations REALLY are. And this TOTALLY pissed me off - Yes, you can have small quantities of this junk, but guess what? Only if it's in a gallon sized ziplock bag.
Yes, you read that correctly. You can bring deodorant and toothpaste on an airplane in your carryon, but ONLY IF IT'S IN A DAMN ZIPLOCK BAG!!!!! If it's loose in your carryon, it's taboo. WHAT THE EFFFFING MOTHER EFF is that all about. . . . .
So, I have to throw out all my junk. They explain that I can run to the convenience store at the other end of the airport and buy a ziplock bag, but I don't have time (or so I think). . . So I toss it in the trash.
So that was the first thing.
Thing number two: I get to the gate, and . . . drumroll. . . . . . . the flight is delayed. So I woulda had plenty of time to get that ziplock.
Anyways, that leads conveniently to thing number three: Drumroll please. . . . . the flight gets cancelled. Okay, this is starting to get REAL frustrating. So anyways, I get on a later flight, connected through JFK. This flight is 3 hours later, so I sit around and stare for three hours (I actually find this pretty relaxing).
Anyways, the new flight comes up and thing number three happens: It's delayed. An hour.
An hour passes, and thing number four happens: It gets delayed TWO EFFING MORE hours. Grrrrrrr! At this point, I'm gonna miss my connection in JFK so I approach the agent again. It turns out that NYC is basically totally grounded tonight due to bad storms. So um . . . yeah, you guessed it: thing number five. There's NO way for me to get to Richmond. This flight I was supposed to get was the LAST one available.
So whatever. I go back home, after sitting at the airport for 4 or 5 hours. I get home, and flip open my laptop to do some work that I woulda done from my hotel to prepare for the interview, which I'll now have to do via conference call, which is nowhere as nice as in person.
Guess what? Thing six. My laptop can't get an internet connection (I have cable broadband service.) I check things out, and it turns out that the rainstorms have taken Road Runner's network out in this area.
So, I get my butt back in the car and drive to the office, where I am now. But we're not done yet. Oh no, not quite yet. Thing seven: I flip my laptop back open, and promptly there's a weird noise. Simultaneously, the screen shuts off.
Yes, that's right. The LCD screen on my laptop died. Dead. Kaput. Pushing up the daisies. It's unfortunate, but luckily I can grab another machine from my lab environment. Still, it's not MY machine, and I have to spend an hour configuring it before I can do anything.
So, I'm stuck in my office, preparing for an interview that I'll have to do via phone, after spending 5 hours in an airport, and having my laptop die. If anything else happens tonight, I'm crawling under a rock and turning out the lights.
I needs a hug!
