Moab Skinny Tire Festival....?

I am thinking of flying out for the Moab Skinny Tire Festival March 2-5th 2007. Anyone else considering this event? Just curious. Four days of glorious riding through some of the most majestic scenery in the country. Who's with me?

Well, it sounded like a lot of fun when I was thinking about it, but this year's Spring Fest is on March 3! (this is the same festival which you saw in that video) I can't miss it. At least on that day. I don't suppose this is an event which you can just pop in and out of? Too bad, I would have loved to meet some of you!!! (Of course, you could make the trip up to Salt Lake to see me dance. ) kidding.

If I go..and it's looking like it...I'm going and riding all four days. Shad & Joe should come visit if it's not too far. It would be great to meet BF/Foo folks. I'm gonna decide for sure next week.

So Shifty in and Flippin' is a possible?

I always ride a day or two on mountain bike while I'm there for STF (this will be my 3rd year). There are great mtn. bikes for rent in Moab, road bikes too.

Shadiyah, you can pop in and out of the event, it would be fun to see you guys there!

Damn, this sounds like a good outing, but I'll be in the midst of MS150 training, and I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to ride marshal that weekend. Maybe in 2008.

Like this year, I won't be able to make it due to school. Plus, I'll be travelling so much this year that I won't be able to justify another trip.

I just did some quick cyphering:

Airfare - $530
Lodging -$250
Registration - $100
Donation - $100 minimum ($300 gets you a jersey and some other goodies)
Meals - ?
Misc. Expenses- ?
Shuttle or Rental Car to get to Moab - ?

I'm looking inot borrowing a Trico Case from one of the club members and shipping costs for one of my bikes. This may prove to be more than I can afford right now. Gotta do some more cyphering.

Hmm... $530, huh? I could fly out there and back for ~$1200 in fuel. Ship bikes, the rest stays the same... AND land right in Moab (well, OK, the field is 18 miles north of town). Interesting... very interesing.

I'll throw the web link to the festival website, there are some great rental bikes available, Orbea and Litespeed, plus you can ride demo bikes on the daily rides, Moots, Serotta, Trek/Lemond. I rode a Vamoots on the 60 mile Saturday ride two years ago, wOOt! You can reserve a rental bike now from Poison Spider Bike Shop, they have carbon Orbea, Rim Cyclery rents Litespeed. You can ship bikes to Poison Spider Bike shop, they have work stands and tools you can use free, very nice people. The swimming pool is always warm, don't forget your suit, FOO pool party anyone?!

Shifty you should come out and do the Triple By-Pass ride. I'm doing it for the first time this summer.

Is that state road 313? I rode from 191 up to the junction one day on vacation last year. That was a butt-kicker for a semi-fit aging guy on a 30 pound touring bike.
