Grr....people that "pad" hours.

This seems to be a huge problem here. From people clock-camping....to people who should hav eleft a half hour ago (already on OT), but stay to round off the hour.....all the way to people deliberately slacking to increase time on the job.

Right now I am dealing with #3. They have a crapload of work to do, and sadly I have to be here to support them. I'm about ready to just give them my Oracle password and tell them to get it done at their leisure....damn slackers. 4 People to pack one server in the past hour.....I can do about 5 in an hour alone....and I am far from being superman.

Really...I'm getting sick of this job. It's not what I do, but how nobody here gives a s**t about their jobs at all, which helps make this place the horrible place it is.

Yeah, tehy got check this......4 more people to do it all in 45mins.....after padding about 4 hours of work.

Punks.....they should work for the govt...they would be right at home. It's amazing....I mean I am good at slacking, but when I slack, it's while things are getting done. Like I will surf BF while I am doing a thermal test on a CPU to make sure it's fine to send back to production...10mins later, right when the test finsihes, I am right on top of it. I'm usually the guy that has everything done before people knew it had to be done....I'm so good at that kind of workspeed that I can get in some quality slack time.

That's what they need to learn....work in insanely intense bursts...then go slack off....it's more productive for the company, and just about as relaxing for the person doing it.

I think clock campers can be dealt with easily just by putting out of order signs on all the timeclock machines....watch them freak out and panic.

Yes, I was very close to doing this a few weeks ago....I still have the out of order signs around in case I do decide that this is a good idea.

+10. This has worked great for me at work.
My boss gives me a list of things for me to do. I get them all done as fast as possible while still being efficient. It happened just today, mind you I only work 2.25 hours on a school day. He gave me a list of things to do, and I get them all done in an hour or so by working intensively. Then I just sit down, relax, slack, talk to other employees and just wander. My boss does not even seem to care, he talks and slacks with me. Everything that needs to be done is done, and if he needs something else he just asks. I don't get my own computer yet .

That's an idea....I'm pretty tempted to avoid tech altogether though if I go to start my own business. Either that or just try to invent stuff, patent it, and then sell it to teh highest bidder.

Cool boss... most bosses I've had are cool with that as long as you get your work done.

+1 on both.

One side of me wants to get out of tech and save software for a "hobby".

Then another side of me wants to just come up with cool ideas and work them into products.

Simple rule...

remember this when and if you become management. Being a hard working dude, I hate slackers, and fire them on the spot. And no I don't expect people to keep up to me, but I expect effort. If the effort isn't there, get out of my department.

I enjoy tech now, I found a level of satisfaction doing what I do. I am not stuck or strung up by management (expect possibly fiscally, god I love unix sometimes) and I get to play with lots of different techologies, keeping it fresh and interesting. Unfortunately, most jobs pay 20,000$ more than me and are 10x as boring (and not in whistler)...its not a sacrifice, just a key point in my decision to make my life a decision of my "job"
