Is there a point that teeth are straight enough?

I've had braces on my teeth Since January 20, 2004.
At first it was "You will have these things on 2 years tops".

2 years later "maybe toward the later parts of summer '06."
Summer of 06 I go in for my checkup. "You will definitely have these off by Christmas, consider that your gift from us".
My most recent checkup (5 or 6 weeks ago) was the most inspiring
"I hope you have these off before college"
What if I don't? We've got a contract with these people that I stay with them until the braces come off. I can't go to college and run back here for checkups. At what point are teeth good enough?
My teeth are quite hyberolic now, my mouth looks like a different mouth when compared to pictures of my teeth prior to having these on. Even the orthodontist said they look quite straight, but she wants to "work out a few details".
I have a checkup tomorrow afternoon. Should I bring up getting these things off? Maybe I can bargain with her? 3 years is enough . I want to eat without getting crap caught in there again

I had braces for about 4 years. The orthodontist was a quack, one visit he'd tell my one thing, next visit he would forget and tell my something totally different. My teeth aren't as straight as they should be for all the pain I remember going through.

braces are a ripoff. I had em, my teeth are better, but they sure as hell have moved back. I used the retainer.

I doubt my teeth will stay this perfect forever, even without the retainer. But it will never be as bad as it was. ALso, I had some problems with front teeth sensitivity, which is now no longer a problem. It was worth it to get what I have, but I think their work is done.

I had braces for about 2 years. Then we got fed up with the orthodontist, and he got fed up with me. My teeth were straight enough, he was happy with them, and so was my dentist. They look good to me, and I can chew my food just fine, so I don't care.

teeth? pft!
eat lots of sugar and don't bruch/floss
after a while they'll abandon your mouth
then you'll not have to worry about them anymore
just shove chiclets in your gums, you can have a colorful mouth that way

Wooo! THe best news yet!
She said my bite looks really good. That I can stop wearing rubber bands for 2 or 3 weeks, and we will see how these things are looking without. If they have not moved, I will be getting these ___ers off! If they move, I guess I have to keep waiting.
