RIP Wasabi

My wife, daughter and I lost a wonderful friend today. He was our pug, Wasabi.

He got sick Wednesday night and had been on an IV, antibiotics, transfusions, and corticosteroids until today trying to help him recover.

The vets were unable to determine what made him sick, but his GI system was hemmoraging and his liver enzymes were so high they could not even be measured even when diluting the blood sample.

We don't keep any household chemicals in the house nor medication, nor anything else toxic that we can possibly think of. At this point I don't care what it was b/c it won't bring him back.

I talked to the vet this morning and he said when dogs get this sick, they are either able to recover or just being kept alive, and Wasabi was just being kept alive.

We went and said goodbye to him this afternoon and stayed with him as they gave the anesthesia.

He was like a son to my wife and I and like a brother to my daughter. He was the sweetest dog I ever met. He loved to cuddle, and he never growled, barked at, or bit anyone.

It was hard, but I know it was for the best.

Bye boy. Remember that daddy loves you.

Wasabi Hoang-Davis

Thanks Jeff. He was a good strong P1 puppy dog.

Luckily, this thread is helping to cheer me up.

My condolences. I lost my Staffordshire terrier to old age and heart failure. It took too long for her to die, and when she did, it was the worst.

That is terrible to loose a family pet, even worse that he died so young.

Sorry for your loss.

This past weekend the barn cat that I rescued a few weeks ago came down with something terrible
I thought it was a severe respiratory infection
Vet didn't know but ruled out infection ?
Had enlarged heart
Barely able to breathe
No control over bodily functions
just terrible shape
Vet, mom and grandmother wanted to put Samson down
I felt Samson knew better so I didn't consent
Couple days and Samson came around. He seems perfectly fine today but who knows what the future holds for him

I know what it's like -as most do- to be faced with that choice and what it's like to lose such a close friend after making that decision
I had to put down my best friend five years ago. Cooler. Kokomo. Kookies. He was 16 and the greatest.
He's not gone, though.
Cooler is always with me
always
Wasabi will always be there with you, I'm sure. He knows you love him because you know you love him
Wasabi never questions that

Geez that sucks man. I'm sorry. I'm tearing up right now. I've lost dogs before that I loved that much and have two great boys I love now and can't imagine something like that. Sending happy karma your direction to you and your family.

R.I.P. Wasabi-Dog - You will be missed more than you'd ever have guessed!

You know. I have been thinking about it and I have not lost a pet that I considered "my" pet since I was about 15, when our Siberian Husky died. It was easier to take because she was old and had a nice long full life.

I didn't think it would hit me so hard until I had to look into his beautiful brown eyes, see his curly Q tail struggling to wag, and tell him goodbye. The vet said if they had not given him a transfusion this morning (special thanks to the vet's house dog, Jada), he would not have even known we were there.

Thanks to everyone for your support.

So sorry to read this. It's hard losing a pet. Just know that you did the right thing for him. Being able to let go is an act of love.

It's devastating to watch a loved one die. Human or pet. My most heartfelt condolences to you and your family, lecterman.

He was a beautiful dog, and I can see in his eyes the happy little guy he was.

So sorry for your loss, and your pain. It will get better over time. That's a Vega promise.

I'm sure many of us here has lost a pet at some time or another, and it is so hard. It has always been a fear for me when they start "getting close". I remember hurting so much as you do now. I keep saying I dont want another pet because of that fear but somehow I always give in. He is very lucky to be in your family. You sure show how much you love him.

My condolences to you and your family.

Wow, I'm very, very sorry. As you can see dogs are a be part of my life!!! The white dog is my child just cause he has been mine thur thick and then.

Its very crazy that you said your dog had a GI thingy going on, both our dogs in November got very ill, my dog Frosty already fighting a diease was in the hospital for 3days. I didn't think he would make it but he pulled through!

I know what you and your family have been going thru and its horrible. Reading your thread brought tears to my eyes. They both had inflamed GI systems. They believed it to be from Turkey that we had given both dogs at Thanksgiving. It sucked!!!

My thoughts are with you and your family.
Take care

Lecterman, - Sorry to hear about your loss. I think I'd be ill if something happened to one of our little girls. I know there will never be another just like him, but after a while, you might find another great friend.

Best wishes,

Z
