Love

"Falling in love doesn't begin with falling in love with others. It begins with falling in love with ourselves. Loving ourselves is healthy and as God intended. Learn to deeply and fully cherish your heart, your soul, and your body and only then will you understand what it is to truly love another"

Discuss.

I whole heartedly agree. You cannot give love unless you truly love yourself completely.

Now LOVING or expressing love to someone else is a different story. I'm retired from that, thankyouverymuch.

That's actually very profound. I remember something very similar to that in a book about 30 years ago.

I think this is very true. Personally reading this I thought to myself, maybe I don't love anyone. I don't know if I can honestly say I truly love myself, in every way. There are lots of things about me I'd like to change. One thing is for sure, if I say I love someone, I THINK I mean it. It's a very special thing, love. Hopefully I find that one and only, someday. *sigh*

Shlt, I sound like a girl. I'm gunna go roll around in the dirt and buy some tools.

Loving yourself means accepting yourself as God intended you to be. As long as you work hard, be honest, are true to yourself and do not hurt others then you are living Gods way.

Oh crap. Now I sound all gooey myself. I'm outta here.

Yeah the first part is accepting and loving yourself (not humping yourself, get yer minds outta thatthardurn gutter).

After all, if you feel you are inadequate, you will always be holding back in your feelings, and in extreme cases can twist how love is being expressed....love should be pure, not tainted with jealousy or other things spouting from a sense of inadequacy.

Just remember, even though we may not have someone else's body, looks, or brains, we might have something else they don't...learn to play the cards you are dealt. Life has a way of letting people be themselves, if we let ourselves be ourselves that is. There is plenty of room for oddballs of all sorts out there. So just kick back, and relax in your unique sexahness.

OK, now I feel like some kind of Dr. Phil wannabe.....ugh....

Here is the romantic notion of love. To know what love is and to understand love as it is, you have to know death. You have to have been dead to know what love is. Through death you understand peace. Through peace, you know love.

Does it take away from the profoundness of the quote if I told you I got it off a shower gel bottle?

I differ in that you don't need to die to understand peace. The biggest turning point in my life was when I was on death's edge from a serious e.coli incident....I pretty much gave up on trying to live, and just sat back and recalled everything good that's happened to me....then somewhere out of nowhere a massive survival instainct kicked in, and somehow I managed to get enough of a voice (I was so dehydrated that my body wasn't able to even process water, and I was unable to speak since the day before) to make a last ditch phone call to get a ride to the ER.

Part of that was my stubbornness to get past it....I did get the infection out of my system for the most part, but it was the dehydration that I suffered from as a side effect that was the real threat. Took approx 2 liters of saline into the bloodstream to get me stabilized....doctors were amazed I was even able to stand up, let alone walk.

But....even that didn't teach me about love. All that did was teach me that there are things in life far worse than not being able to pay a bill, or not having that shiny new trinket. Life is the ultimate gift, and we should do all we can to live it as well as we can, anything else is throwing away something that nobody can replace.

What helps best to understand love is not experienceing your death, but understanding the concept of life and death....it doesn't take a near-death experience to figure that one out....just a pet going away....at that point in a child's life, a switch turns on. It's at that point they realize that they did love.

Happiness and sadness are conjoined twins of sorts, you need to experience both depths to understand them fully.

I've known death. I've felt dead. I'm beginning to understand peace of heart. Does this mean I will know love again?

Yes. I know you will. Trust me, sometimes I "know" things.
