Logitech setpoint is pissing me off (help keep me from busting a cap in my mouse)

Seriously, I keep setting this program's scroll settings, and it keeps changing randomly. Why?

I delete program profiles from it, so they won't screw things up, it puts them back in.....so I set the scroll settings, and then 30mins later, they change back.

What the hell is this?

Bad part is I need the software to get the mouse to function like I want it to (Mx Revolution), but the software sucks so badly that it's almost unusable.

Let's put it this way....I throw the scrollwhell as hard as I can when on free-spin, and I get about a half page of scroll....why? BECAUSE THE DAMN PROGRAM SET HTE SCROLL TO IT"S LOWEST SPEED!!!!!!!!!

Really, unless you have seen it, it's hard to imagine how annoying it really is.....anyone else had this happen? if so, any tips on how to fix it?

OK, I found a 3rd party app that fixed it (uberOptions).

God that was annoying. I also found out where the user.xml file was for the mouse (config)....I'll have to make sure that next time I get it set right (if ever used in absence of uberOptions), then make it read only to everything down to system level (I reserve this for only the most annoying of uncontrollable tasks, it can make an OS flip out in a bad way if used wrong).

Indeed. I heard some bad stuff about the Logitech mouse drivers, so I didn't even bother installing them on my MX310. Fortunately, XP apparently recognizes the forward and back buttons natively, even through the PS/2 port. The only thing that doesn't work is the window switch button, and I think Alt+tab is actually an easier motion than folding my middle finger way back to hit that guy.

Logitech normally makes such great products (I'm also loving my new Z-4 speakers). It's surprising their driver is so bad.

Yeah, problem is this mouse has side scrolling, a zoom wheel with push down feature, a quick switch button, and the scrollwheel has a push down (mode change) for it, that makes it go from free-spin to ratcheting motion.

All of this is necessary to get my $100 worth from this beast. It's a fantastic mouse though when it does work right....pretty much mousing nirvana. Pity free-scrolling doesn't work 100% on IE7 (they tell you to use Firefox instead....doh, I actually like the IE7 interface, it's a nice minimalist design)

freescroll is just dreamy though....I swear the scrollwheel has to be one ball-bearings.....just flick it once, and let it spin long enough to go through the longest of documents with ease. That was one of the core features that convinced me to get this mouse.

Downside is they set the default scroll behavior so everything is so darn slow.....I guess they assume random_guy_01 will overscroll repeatedly or something.

check your hardware with the HCL for the distro you are trying to install.

There might be one item that is mudging everything up.

What kind of hardware are you using?

I saw the title, had a vision of hanging a mouse on the hanger at the gun range normally for silhouettes, moving it to 100 yards, stuffing a 100 round clip in the .22 and seeing how many rounds it takes until the offending piece of PC hardware is turned into small pieces.

Nah, I would just borrow my co-worker's 12ga semi-auto, load it up with buckshot, and watch the thing literally turn to thousands of tiny fragments almost instantly as I unload on it.

Why use a tiny .22 when you can use a superior weapon and have superior destruction.

I would disable the onboard NIC and use a intel NIC instead...that might clear up a lot of issues.

In general, onboard hardware can be real pains with Linux.....try getting it to work with a laptop for example....it's tough.

Nothing wrong with that. I sometimes want a challenge, and want to aim for my target at insanely long distances. =)

That was my thoughts, since when I can get knoppix live to load & run, it won't recognize any network card on the system. I don't have an Intel NIC think a Realtek will do ok?
