widescreen monitor

So the only way I can fit the printer insurance sent us on my computer table is if I replace my 10yr old CRT monitor with an LCD. This thing is due for replacement anyways, it has had a prosperous life but has been diagnosed with a problem. Every 30 or so minutes, the screen turns dark for about 10 seconds. Then it slows "zooms back in", gradually increasing the light. The colors are probably not that great, but I guess I must be used to it because I am not bothered. Anyways, an LCD is in store for me. A friend of mine has a 21" widescreen, it was impressive to see bikeforums on the widescreen. If I don't get a widescreen, I will want a 19". But which do I want? A wide screen or a 19?

If you can and want to go cheap - i'd go with a dell lcd. It's not a Samsung or a ViewSonic but it's also not the same price and they're very reliable and very good. Probably the best for the deal as most decent Samsungs and Viewsonics have to be in the 500+ dollar range. $300 ViewSonics suck

I get a headache from LCD, so I'm still using a CRT monitor.

I have a 15" LCD. I'm very happy with it.
The wide screen is in the living room. It's for HDTV.

You get a headache because your body is going thru withdrawal from no x-rays when you use an LCD.

Get a 20" wide screen and a 17" normal next to it, that's what I have at work and the heights are the same.

Dell 20" Widescreen

It's on sale now for $251. It's not the Ultrasharp version, which has a slightly better colors (most people don't seem to be able to tell) and more connection options, but the price for what you get seems to be unbeatable. If I can finish talking myself into a widescreen, it'll be this one.

I have a 19 inch wide screen and I think that the 19 inch regular may be better depending on how you use it. A 19 inch widescreen is shorter than the regular monitor and many documents (word, PDF) are formatted to fit an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper. For documents such as these, you can see more of the document on a regular proportioned monitor.

I do some video editing on mine and I like having the wider screen for the video timelines but other than that, the longer space is difficult to use. I think it would be better to have a widescreen that you could tilt so it could be tall or wide, depending on the task at hand.

I have the $400 22" viewsonic. Amazing display, for windows or gaming. It's also lighter than my older 19" normal aspect LCD....about half the weight. The integrated speakers are garbage though (as expected).

I actually have two 19" LCD (non-wide screen) monitors on my system. They're Westinghouse LCM-19v7's that I picked up at Best Buy for $179.75 each.

I think I am going to go with the 19" normal. There are some good products to look at, thanks.
