    I've gone Mac

And I'm not going back. I came back this week from my holiday travels to an Apple iBook G4 on my desk (the 12.1" model). It's not the newest, but it works great. I don't think that I've ever been able to multi-task on a computer like I am on this one. I am quite impressed and I can see why IT made the decision to make the switch. I'm looking forward to getting a MacBook soon now.

I'm loving my black MacBook. It was an upgrade from my 400MHz Sun Ultra 5, though. So, basically, a pentium II 800 would have been an upgrade.

Actually, I was running OpenBSD on a 1.2GHz Athlon, but I spent a lot of time on the Ultra 5 as well.

Even though I just bought a new comp [1] a couple weeks ago, I'm pondering a Mac Mini as a server next round of computer purchases, preferably with OS X Server. Something about a UNIX-based OS with a solid UI [2] appeals to me. The only drawback is cost, but that has been hashed to Hell and gone on slashdot and other places, I don't want to bring that up here.

[1]: Yes, yes, a real computer person builds his/her own boxes, but I got a good deal on a HP box with exactly what I wanted, where it was far cheaper to go with that than to buy all the parts and build it.

[2]: I'm not knocking KDE/Gnome/etc, but I like the MacOS UI.

I almost bought a mini for my wife. We just ended up re-purposing one of the servers at home for her to play WOW on. It works, but it's Windows. She can get around in Linux just fine, so I'm sure she could pick up OS X without a problem. You probably don't need OS X server. Just install Fink and let it download/install all the cool server stuff. If you know your command-line P's and Q's it's a cinch.

My new Macbook Pro just plain rocks. This is an upgrade from my G4 Powerbook and it is better in every way. I have a PC at home but much prefer the Mac and OSX. I have the software to run wndows on it but have not yet installed it.

Once you have an os-x machine with intel chip there is no looking back. With the right software (bootcamp, parallels, etc) you can run multiple operating systems so you won't lose your cherished windows apps, linux installs too!! It is afterall a unix box with the MAC GUI set to be the interface. I'm on a macbook pro.

Currently Adobe apps can be a little wonky on the intel chip. So graphics geeks beware. CS3 is to be the universal version.

My wife's ibook just crapped out for the last time. Seems the logic board's fried which is typically the case for most broken ibooks. Macs work great when they work, but hardware issues like these can be a PITA.

I've always been Mac but my wife just had to have a Dell laptop. That thing has been a nuisance and she hardly ever uses it except for one function that the real estate website doesn't do on the Mac(stupid webmasters).

Yea the first gen NEW MacBooks have got some issues....replacement seems to be the rule..zen patience for that though, as Apple works it's way through that. Use the browser from windows on the MAC..it'll work ...that's how I get to my PC only HR site. I run Parallels so I can use XP and run my PC apps.

Once you go Mac you don't go back.

I've been a PC guy since the 80's, in the 90's I became a cross platform expert within the graphics industry. Only with the advent of OS-X has the MAC truly been able to shine now that it can walk and chew gum at the same time, as well as to be able to dynamically allocate it's RAM resources. I don't want to buy another PC ever......

It's not so much the Mac that I like, but the OSX. So I'm running it on my Dell laptop... Funny thing is that Asus makes the Powerbooks for Apple and the comparable Asus model is actually more expensive than the Apple versions...

My brain understands raw assembly code and I have ported many applications to it, including gcc, glibc, and tcl/tk.
