It's a little slippery in Portland

That first car made me laugh.

Here's my Portland weather rant: We do have some unique challenges when it snows 1-3 inches. This only happens about once a year, so the city doesn't have snow plows or de-icing equipment, and it really wouldn't be cost effective to do so. It tends to hover around the freezing point or a little higher, which means the roads are very wet and slippery. Finally, most people around here just don't have the skills to drive in snowy, icy weather. Once a year isn't enough to learn, and there are a lot of former Californians here. Given all of that and the fact that we have great public transit with well-trained drivers who use chains on the buses, why people insist on trying to drive in this - especially the inclines - is beyond me. I know better than that, and I do know how to drive in this weather! Ok, I feel better now.

Didn't mean to offend, Donna-- you have to see the video to believe some of the poor winter-season driving skills, however.

This storm has mostly produced dry, hard-packed snow, not too bad for walking on. It only turns to ice on the roads. If it had been freezing rain, which isn't all that uncommon here, that would be another story altogether...

You can't just be introduced to the ZooBombers, y'all need to get on a little bike and ride with them...

I just saw that video on glumbert.com. Great stuff. I think it's funny how that downhill slope claimed practically every car that even touched it.

Let's talk about tire chains and snow tires. If that's the hills in NW, which it looks like, it's not at all worth trying without something on your wheels.

Nice "heads up" call from the camera guy whenever he sees one out of control.

I took a short drive yesterday. It wasn't bad on level ground if you keep your speed down and plenty of space in front of you, but one stupid person can mess things up pretty quick.
