Kind of a weird assignment...

In my Revisions class, we got an assignment on Friday that's due Monday. I'll just quote the syllabus on this one...

That's all the information I have, the prof. didn't say anything else about it. I'm not really sure what I should write about or where I should start. I started to just describe my MySpace page, but I'm not sure that's what she's asking for. What do you think I should write about?

Sounds like she's asking who the person on your MySpace page is. We all have an image of ourselves - and a forum like MySpace allows one to put that image forward, even though it might not really be you. IE, your MySpace persona would probably be the best representation you can offer, without all the mundane aspects of the real you (hey, we all have them).

Take a visit to your MySpace, and pretend it belongs to a stranger. Write about who that stranger appears to be, based upon what's on the MySpace page. Good luck!

Hmmmm, yeah, I'll think about from the perspective of a stranger. Thanks!

What's a "Revisions class"?

One way to get going on this . . . analyze the kind of information you include on the page and what you don't include.

Well here is some options: you can write about you, since the page is about you. Could talk about how web pages are created and how they got popular.

I think what the teacher is asking for is for you to compare your online persona, or how you portray yourself on myspace vs. how you really are. A good way to do that is for you to get some feedback from friends who know you, have them look at your myspace page and tell you their impressions of everything compared to how you are in real life.

Is having a myspace or facebook page a prerequesite for the class?

It is interesting - for me, my online persona is probably less threatening than the impression people get from me up close and personal. After all, I can't reach through the screen and throttle an idiot via the keyboard. (I am working on this idea though...)

I just hope some of you aren't the same as you are on line...

If you don't have a blog or myspace page, I suspect BF would be a good substitute, as you present a persona here as well.

Naw, we all present a face, some of us it's accurate and some of us it's a front for really being a nerd in a computer lab 25 hrs a day. Me, I'm a pretty straight shooter, what you see here is pretty much what you get.

I've already seen your face and it looks like this!

So to see if i had a visible online persona, I did a google image search for "jsharr". Here is the only image that appeared. This is actually pretty funny to me.

I think Pheard was right with what he said. I had a teacher ask us once to write our own obituaries. It was pretty interesting and fun.

I based it around some of the suggestions you guys made, sounds pretty good to me. I've got class in 15 minutes, it'll be interesting to see what other people wrote.

I was joking. My sig says "when people agree with me I feel I must be wrong". You agreed with me, therefore I must be wrong.
