a 403 is usually a response from a web server, not from a proxy appliance or filter, which usually give you a more customized message. Can you take a screen shot next time it happens, including the address bar?

in fact, I have a little perl script that acts as a proxy, if you have a shell account in which to run it on
it acts like any proxy server, only a little slower

there is a way for network filtering to be set up to respond with a 403 when an unauthorized site is accessed (or attempted to be accessed rather)
but if I'm not mistaken he works for a rather large company that would use real firewall software other than filtering hacks, so you are most likely correct
though stranger things have happened

It's the same error message I get when I try to go to CNN.

It's freaky but my productivity like, doubled when that happened.

Most firewalls, proxies and appliances either redirect to a custom 'disallowed' page, or respond with a default which looks different than your normal, ugly, 403 response. A screen shot might shed some light.

Ask your boss how he/she expects you to get anything done without access to BikeForums.

Not a lot of white meat around here, I think like, maybe 10%, and that's staff. Non-technical/engineering workers? Let's just say if INS ever came here, we'll have a stampeed on our hands.

Dude, I hate to break it to you, but BikeForums.net is giving you the 403. Your work IP is being denied...I'd bet your boss got on the phone with Joe and they both agreed that you not only should be punished and needed to be punished...you WANTED to be punished. I bet your boss is taking pictures of you jonesing, sweating and going through withdrawls cuz you can't get here from there. I bet Joe posts them soon, right alongside Shad's bellydancing videos. You pissed off the gods...you might as well just put your head between your knees and kiss your okole goodbye.

Of course, I could be full of ***** too.

hey the place I work at would get Osha's penis to explode from being over-hard....and we still have a pretty ******** setup.

I have to use a hacked version of Opera that uses a malformed IP exploit to do much of anything....down to doing stuff that's part of my job (referncing customer specs for one...the tards blocked my wwwte access.....morons....now I have to leapfrog through VNC to a allowed PC (oddly in california) to do my job).

That is what happens when a company contracts out most of their IT work, and the few IT they have around are either of the types that:

a) think their user base are nothing but slackers or morons
b) have no clue what the hell they are doing

I think it's mostly B) in my case, since they keep making our databases inaccessable as well, doing software updates the machines can't handle, thinking a hard drive that keeps blue-screening just needs a defrag, etc.

Either way, good luck man, it sounds more like something other than blocking in your case, you should see a websense or similar page if it's truly blocked....or it could just be some botched settings on their end.

There are ways. Use a program like VNC to remote into another computer like your one at home. Then you will use your home computer to surf bike forums or what ever else.
