WTF over Anna Nicole Smith

Suddenly, I can't turn on the TV without seeing a story about Anna Nicole Smith. WTF? Was she THAT big a deal?

Can't we move on?

I'll put 100 bucks the husband did it. he looks like a slimeball, probably had it planned out from the start. I bet he did her son too.
He's also a LAWYER for chrissakes, he knows what he's doin'
Watch the news, you'll see him in cuffs for this
He'll be found not guilty tho, of course...

And as a lawyer, I say he's a disgrace to the profession. I mean, no self-respecting lawyer actually marries someone like Anna Nicole.

Back to the original point of the thread, what has me really shaking my head isn't Anna Nicole Smith or her death -she was always rather cartoonish and her death is hardly a shock - but rather the people who are coming out of the woodwork to actively push their way in front of a camera in order to force-feed the public stuff that used to be kept to one's self (or at least to one's closest confidantes) because to do otherwise was considered too embarrassing. Her Mom speaking out about her daughter's tawdry habits? Zsa-Zsa Gabor's husband asserting paternity of the baby girl? I mean, WTF is going on here? Has it really reached the "bread and circuses" stage where all we are to be fed as "news" looks more like "Jerry Springer Show" outtakes? Apparently so.

Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intellegent life on this planet.

My solution: don't turn on the TV.

I think this is one of those cases where the less I know, the more faith I have in humanity.

Agreed. That is why I don't turn on the TV anymore. I heard about this only through a co worker who shouted loudly "Anna Nicole Smith died!!" Of course everyone stirred....

Also agreed. And since my TV watching consists almost entirely of sports, History Channel or Law & Order re-runs, I have managed to avoid all TV coverage of this alleged news story. But it still manages to seep into our general consciousness, doesn't it?

Of course it comes full circle. Although we try to avoid any kind of negative exposure, it always finds a way to sneak into our lives. No matter how we try, the gossip and the speculation follow us. The only solace I have is to live my life as honest and true as I can and hope that my reward is waiting above. We can only control our own lives, not those of others.

In our local newspaper yesterday, a story on Anna Nicole Smith was featured on page one. A story about an ambulance dumping a disabled homeless man with a ruptured colostomy bag (!) in a park in L.A. ran on page three.

Damn the cult of celebrity in this country!

No, they just employ them as "secretaries"

What gets me is the three cable news channel are carrying this not stop. MSNBC had a hour special on it this morning. Then these channels turn around and try to convince us that they are serious news channels.

No most lawyers just keep someone like her on the side.

You know, it's really just that 95% of lawyers that give the rest of us a bad name.

It would probalby be too difficult to prove - and who is to say that it was purposeful - thgat it was done purposefully. Son was killed with alcohol+drug+anti-depressant combo. And chances are she was the same way. And chances are she was told that this might have been how .. and chances are she scoffed at those who said so.

Anyways it's not like she did anything important.

John Wayne Bobbitt had his "carreer" soar, too, but that doesn't it worth the price of admission.

Yay! Great advice!

An even better one. Throw away your TV.

You can watch anything you want on the internets anyway.
