Women and androgenous men, look out!

I'm single!

After having a fight last night and a talk today, I broke things off with the girlfriend.

Compatibility issues. Isn't that what it comes down to in the end every time?

Yeah compatibility seems to be the most common issue, but isn't that really balanced by negotiation skillz?

To an extent. These issues surpassed logical skill levels...

Sorry to hear, but there ain't nothin' wrong with being single, either, so cheers to that life, too.

Hm, seems like the hair was the beginning of the end. Well, I'm glad for you, as it seems your energy (at least of the written word) is more like I remember it to be, and that's a wonderful thing. I hope it isn't too premature to say it, but welcome back to yourself.

Haha, thanks!

Now, with renewed energy, I can take my frustrations out in the A&S forum!!! Ha!

In two minutes (-ish) I'll be celebrating the one-year anniversary of the day I kicked the GF out of the house. Hey, at least I didn't (and you don't) have to worry about Valentine's Day.

SingingSabre, unless you said I do with a license you were always single. Compatability comes down to views on sex and spending money.

Hm, some of us don't feel so good about the license until everyone who wishes to get one can. Don't mean to get political, just sayin'....

Never, ever, ever, ever, ever apply logic to an emotional relationship! It doesn't work!

I dunno, sometimes I think I'm becoming one. So much easier to deal on a logic level than an emotional level. Emotions aren't logical.

Well, perhaps the reason my wife and I have been married for 26+ years is that we are both logical. Perhaps the problem is that people are just being emotional about marriage. For me, marriage is a contract, the purpose is to build something together, be it a family of a lifetime partnership. There is no guarantee that you will always be "compatible" - in fact, the odds are there will be times you don't like each other very much. After all, your partner knows you like no one else.

Even though I am pretty conservative in my values, I have no problem at all with the idea of same-sex marriages. Marriage isn't about sex, it is about a lifetime committment to partnership. Sex is part of it (hopefully - but not all people who are married CAN have sex) - but the partnership, the friendship and the commitment are the important things.

Being attracted to someone is probably the worst possible reason to get married. If you don't believe me - look at a picture of a star from 40 years ago, and look at them now. Looks don't last that long, but relationships too.

After all, I am living proof of the last. (okay, okay, I probably never WAS good looking)

Could you explain what "compatibility" means? Right now it's a meaningless buzzword to me.

Maybe the answer is to not get married then?

It means you can stand being together for extended periods of time.
