ever gone on a road trip?

So yesterday my hubby and I went to see wild hogs,It's about a few middle aged men who decide to go on a road trip to escape thier rather boring live.

Beside being funny, both my hubby and I said to each other at the same time " I want to go on a road trip!"

I told him, fat chance:p he has been on many trips by himself, told him it's my turn.

I'm really seriously thinking of packing up my bike and going on a road trip this summer for a few days, maybe with my long time partner in crime ( my girlfriend)
It would be the first time I actually go somewhere withought my kids or hubby in 20 years.
I need that, I really want to do this!

So where are you planning on cycling?

Had any thoughts on that yet?

blonduathlongrl 03-19-07 08:07 AM

no, I want to go by car somewhere, stop over night here and there, take days riding in that area, ride again somewhere else and do that again. visit, laugh, laugh...
maybe Ill make stops in everyone's state and say hello!:D

crtreedude 03-19-07 08:08 AM

Sounds cool BDG - now what you should do is go somewhere warm when it is cold up there...

crtreedude 03-19-07 08:08 AM

Some of us are in a pretty strange state BDG... ;)

Well You know I am going to say visit North Carolina and I am sure Vega will back be up on this one.

BDG. A car will get one further on that much needed road trip. About doing a road trip on the bike. Camp fires with fellow cyclists seem more communial instead of some physically, warm, but otherwise, cold hotel room.

I have two suggestions:

Spring - Shenandoah Valley

Summer - Finger Lakes

This summer it will have been 31 years since I went on my little cyclo-touring adventure in the Finger Lakes. My friend and I didn't work out the logistics really well. We didn't take enough cash, and my not being 18 yet was problematic when we checked into the 1st campsite. :o It was a fun ride, and we picked a camp that was right on a really nice creek with little waterfalls and swimming holes. I'm hoping to persuade my son to go on one there with me in 2008.

Dont you all miss these days? where life was an adventure?

Been thinking about doing something similar myself. Toying with either a loaded bike tour of the SE or a long @$$ hike up the Appalachian Trail. Just myself and the great outdoors.

If you decide to do it, I wish you loads of fun and adventure.

thanks, something very appealing about the open road, options, no agenda, just a plain adventure.

Lancaster, PA perhaps - without the boxers please. :p

I do those kind of trips every year, they are my min-vacations, like Lancaster will be this year, as well as RAIN. Pack the bike and drive, drive without the bike, or load up the bike and leave the car at home. ;)

Like all of us haven't done that already, repeatedly, right here in Foo! :p

Michigander choose a great spot at Grand Haven. I know that beach anywhere. A great spring trip I recall. The smell of Thomasville , GA with it's spring bloom. Or Ashville, NC area. The Smokies are truly magnificient in April/May. The faces of the mountains covered with rhododendrum, I think it was. . sp?

+1. I have two spare rooms here, BDG. And some good ridin': flats, hills, and mountains, all within decent drive times. Plus a TT that you could possibly ride in, depending on when you're here. :D <holding carrot on stick>

Last road trip I was part of had nothing to do with cycling. It was a two month long road trip we all did since we were currently out of school, and had enough money in the bank to not worry about a summer job.

Just me, two of my buds, and my bud's "girlfriend" (I use it loosely, since they were both in denial...they were hooked up...they just couldn't face the music...punks :p ).

We were all loaded up in my Regal, and we put some ungodly miles on that thing...pretty much we started in Indiana, ende dup in Virginia, then went down to Arkansas, then back up. It was a blast.

None of our mothers were very fond of the idea especially mine, since she knows I can be a load of trouble. She realized I was old enough to make my own bad decisions, and we had the means at the time to deal with it (we each had about $3000 in our checking accts).

It was actually pretty inexpensive. We stayed in tents at various campsites, ate at whatever unique places we could find...and in general goofed off to a level that we could not do anywhere else. Gas wasn't too bad on the car, it got about 25 highway (damn good for a car with a 3-speed auto and a V6).
