Gift suggestion for friend's B-Day?

My friend is turning 31 this Sat and he's having a B-Day party. He recently got married, moved into a new house, and has his 1st kid on the way. And we both played football for the university. Any ideas on what to get him? Maybe get a combination B-day / housewarming / baby present? I have no idea. ???

I had my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I got a handmade meditation bench, a knife, another knife, a burrito and a stuffed turtle. Oh and some fake pearls.

Oh. And a visit from Mich all the way from Michigan and a visit from Jon all the way from The South Side.

Best birthday ever.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

What kind of stuff does he like? Get him something for him....it's HIS birthday after all! A team jersey from his favorite college or pro team? A chess set? Something that reflects him, basically is what I'd suggest!

I am 40's with two kids and a house. I would love gift certificates to my LBS, or to online bike parts supplier like Nashbar, or movie theater , or book store. I prefer gift certificate so I can get what I want. I also just like to get out without the kids, so try to arrange something with his wife that he his not aware of so that the two of you or your group of men can go do an organized ride. Pay for his entrance fee, etc. as a gift.
