    ebay rant

so, i want to buy something on ebay. i try to do this. i attempt to sign up so that i may bid. then, i find that i've already signed up. i recall signing up, so it's not as though someone else has hacked my info or any other bizarre thing. i just can't remember when i signed up. it was probably at least a year ago. the problem is, while i can get them to e-mail me my old user name, i can't get them to e-mail me my password. this is because i can only remember the answer to 1 of the security questions. so, i tried to contact e-bay about this problem. i found out that i can't because i don't recall my password adn they require me to enter it before i can sign up. so, it seems that i will never be allowed to buy on ebay again simply because i can't recall year+ old information and i can't get into contact with anyone in the company. should i make a bogus account just so that i may buy stuff off ebay? what should i do? what would you do?

Keep trying to remember your security questions, password etc. Maybe it will come back maybe not. Worst comes to worst you may have to re-sign up with a different email/credit card/bank account. Hopefully there is a simpler way to fix this but I don`t know how.

MMmmmmmm... That sounds like a Catch-22. If you can not remember your old details, then the easiest thing does seem to be to create a new account. That's what I would do.

pfft. what i wanted to by went up in price anyway. and somehow, within the past 30 minutes a day was shaved off the sale time. i find that really amazing. i wonder how much one of them new fangled time converters costs.

and they won't let you create a new account with your real information. i guess they prefer people to sign in under fake names and all that.

Grab a new freemail address and start over.

Next time keep your important passwords on a 32MB USB memory key or something. You can buy thos at Target for the retardedly high price of $5 (considering you can get 2GB for $15)

I'd consider using two different ways to protect your passwords, just in case your machine gets a keylogger on it. Consider a USB stick with a fingerprint scanner, or use software on the USB stick that uses a smart card.

Oh yeah, Ebay and Paypal offer a hardware token that you punch a button, and it shows a six-digit code, that changes every 30 secs. This will also stave off keyloggers.

goldfishin - don't you own a pen or pencil? When you sing up for something that requires any financial info, write your info down for your brain.... or is it just Paypal that requires that? It's been so long, I'm so old... I don't remember.
