i have to laugh to keep from crying

i'm contracting with a consulting firm doing some recruiting and other HR projects.

i asked about the status of a candidate i had screened. the account manager at my consulting firm for this client said, "we'll rule him out due to poor grammer."

((hugs)) AS47.

I am a grammar freak, and appreciate those who know what good grammar is, even if they don't always use it. If they know better, that's so cool, and excuses the vernacular use of grammar.

Of course, I loves me my vernacular grammar.

If I were ever in charge of a team there would be serious penalties for grade school-level grammar and spelling mistakes. It's unacceptable.

Kudos to that account manager. I assume he said that and you just mistyped "grammer". There's an internet law for that sort of thing isn't there? That any post pointing out spelling mistakes will have a spelling mistake in it?

Does spelling count?

I just heard a phone call to the local radio station on the way to work. Apparently the city of Tampa recently replaced a street sign in downtown.

It used to have the two cross streets "Ashley Dr." and "Kennedy Blvd".

Now it has "Ashley Dr." and "Kenndey Blvd.".

Oh man....if anybody gets a picture of us misspelling Kennedy, we'll be on national news for it by evening. I know how you feel...I've got to laugh so I don't cry over it.

think conceptually rather than literally.

sarcasm, irony and lots of fun are lost on those who can only think in literal terms. otoh, there is a certain amount of entertainment value to be had. as long as one doesn't let it get under their skin.

so, you assume "said" referred to verbal communication. you assume the acct mgr is a "he." what do you assume the purpose of the post was? that it was a declaration that grammatical ability isn't a legitimate criteria for eliminating candidates?

re: your other comment. yep, it IS funny to have a typo in a post commenting on "grammer." i laughed out loud when i noticed it and considered leaving it in the original post. but i thought the humor would be lost on some people. aparently i was correct.

uh oh.....potential ADA violation! what was the source of his smell...could it have been one of his more embarassing moments of flatulence?

No I got it, just wasn't sure if you mistyped or if you were pointing out the irony of the account manager's mistake. Either one would be funny, so you can understand how I might be confused huh?

p.s. yes I assumed it was a guy. Damn male bias, my bad. I usually manage to be aware of those things, whatdyaknow I get caught out on this thread of all places.

p.p.s. For me, grammatical ability is a legitimate criteria for eliminating candidates, particularly in a job where you have to interact with people.
