Pick up an older version of Photoshop from eBay for $25. I'm using Photoshop 4.0 and it works great. Even with CPU-emulation in Rosetta on an Intel Mac, it still runs faster than the latest versions of Photoshop. On a G5-Mac, it simply kicks ass over CS2 on a CoreDuo...

Or you can send me your address via PM and I'll send you a CD of Adobe PhotoDeluxe (kinda like Photoshop Light). Came with some Epson printer and I have no need for it.

I downloaded GIMP. It won't run until I install x11. Sorting threw my system disk to see if I have it. Anyone know of an alternate way to get it? The link on the site for GIMP to download x11 is does not work.

It should also be on the OSX install CDs. Look for the "Optional Installs" and run that. Your CD's on its way.

Secondary Info I recieved from Mac Forums.

Here's a list of some of the leading apps out there in this (almost crowded) field:

Photoshop Elements
Photoshop CS2

GIMP (www.gimp.org)
Seashore (http://seashore.sourceforge.net)
ChocoFlop (http://www.chocoflop.com)

GraphicConverter (http://www.lemkesoft.com/xd/public/c...lkPTE5Mw_.html)
ImageWell (http://xtralean.com/IWOverview.html)

LiveQuartz (http://www.rhapsoft.com)

...and of course...

iPhoto (which has quite a nice set of editing tools)

GraphicConverter is great. For whatever reason, its JPEG compression seems a lot better than Photoshop's -- for the same quality setting, a GraphicConverter-saved JPEG is nearly always smaller.
