Peugeot AO8 with new wheels (built them this weekend), tyres, and fenders from the bin.

This is my beater / rain / bar bike... it is not valuable (save for the wheels) and not exactly rare and pretty scruffy.

Sixty, seeing pictures of all your awesome old bikes has made me want another one. The oldest bike I've ever owned for any length of time and actually ridden a lot is my Univega, which is just from the early 80s. So now I'm keeping my eyes peeled for something older, preferably 1960s.

It's been months since I took a ride strictly for fun. And actually...I guess this one wasn't strictly for fun, since I swung by my workplace to pick up something I forgot yesterday. But I still got to ride my favorite bike, and the weather was perfect.

Lampy's Univega is even sweeter in person... I got to take it for a spin when I was in Bellingham.

Tweaked out the Moulton and swapped the modern LX crank for a vintage Sugino Competition.

^^^Very pretty!

Couple of questions.

Campy brake?

How did you get those rims to shine? They're not chromed are they?

Thanks! The brake is a generic dual pivot I picked up from the bike co-op and the lever is Tektro. The rims are generic 700c rims which to my surprise arrived all nice and shiny. I would consider repainting the frame except the rustic look is growing on me.

David - You are going to catch up to me pretty soon if you keep this up.

This arrived today... it is fast enough the way it sits that it might strike fear into many a roadie and tomorrow I am going to put on some 1.25 Avocet cross tyres which have a much faster rollout and should work very well for some fast XC and urban assaults.

I should throw this in a box and send it to you... it would be a blast to ride there on the trails as it just eats that stuff right up.

Wait wait wait... do they still sell the Avocet Cross II K? Back in the day, that was one of my favorite tires until they killed it. If they still exist, can I get some in 700x32 or 35???
