I survived finals, grades are in!

Overall GPA is 3.5 for the semester and 3.8 average thus far. Math killed my GPA but I survived it! WOOOOHOOOO!

I have my last final Thursday, crappy art appreciation!!! I don't care about my gpa (3.0), especially since I'm transferring to a university and it won't factor in. Employers could care less you have a high gpa; your ability to learn information and recall it for a multiple choice test will not help in the real world.

Sorry, my finals weren't multiple choice

Philosophy was an off the cuff essay on Neitzche

Health Psych was critical thinking on the mind/body connection

Math was number crunching and no multiple choice

History was all long answer comparative analysis on the Civil War and Reconstruction.

Anthropology was also critical thinking.

My goal is Academic Track and GPA counts when you are trying to qualify as a research fellow.

LOL!!! Where are you from? There are many employers that won't go any further on your resume if your gpa is less than 3.5. I wanted to get and internship with Lockheed and they wouldn't consider me because I had less than 3.8.

Also, if you have multiple choice finals then I'd say you are majoring in a pretty easy field.

In the long run GPA means little in the real world. But before there is anything else to go on it means a lot.

Years ago I was an assistant manager in a programming department and had to go through the resumes. We placed an add in one paper, Los Angeles times if I recall correctly. We were deluged with resumes. Part of the ad said excellent communication skills required. First cut, throw out all the resumes with gross grammar errors. That cut it in half, yes half.

The typo 'I wanted to get and internship' could be enough to drop someone down from the call list to the hold in case no one on the call list works out list.

By far the biggest thing is a decent resume, a crappy one gets you out of the running except for jobs no one else is even applying for.

Glad to hear it, Tom. I'm not the least bit surprised, mind you, but I'm still glad to hear it. Way to go.

Civil War and Reconstruction, huh? Took a class on that in college, would love to take more.

Good job. I made it through my Calculus course with a B. I didn't get the slam dunk A in my Digital Logic class that I thought I did. I missed it by a couple of points. I'm riding at a 3.5 overall GPA, which is not too bad.

Hmmm, do I have to give back all the money I have made over the years inspite of:

1. I barely made it out of High School.
2. I never went to college.

I find myself conscience stricken that some how I managed to get paid more than people with Master's degrees and Phds in my field. Typos and all. (yes, I am the king of typos - and I married an editor!)

Please tell me I don't have to refund all my illgotten gains!.

Oh, congrats Tom, way to go and for most mortals, it really is important what you get in school. Especially when you go to the large companies where those who interview can't tell if you can do the job, so can only rely on the resume.

Well, I am going with you are just giving an example here, because obviously I am less likely to check my grammar for a forum post. My overall point was that while one is in school, said person's gpa is fairly important for gaining employment directly out of college.

I think my GPA this semester is going to be sub-3, and that means I'll lose my scholarship. Please pray that my profs are nice to me. I'm a point or two short of an A in 2 classes.
