    I *heart* irony

I do, I really do. Spotted today on the freeway, a homemade bumper sticker (emphasis not mine):

i think flavored or enhanced water is ironic, esp. if it is enhanced with iron.

How about rain on your wedding day?

It rained biblical on my wedding day. It was more of a bummer than ironic.

    Don'tcha think?

Alanis Morissette has no clue about what irony means.

    Sure she does.

    That song was completely ironic.

As grating as her voice is, she's gained my respect with her cover of "My Humps," which so full of irony it's scary.

What, that all the song's similes are describing irony, when in fact none of the situations are ironic? Wow, I don't give her that much credit.

Yeah, but isn't that ironic? She's singing about irony when none of it's really irony?

I believe that CyLowe was going meta on the irony. The fact that a song that has all these similes in it that are supposed to be ironic, but really aren't, is, I believe, ironic.

Edit: D'oh. He beat me to it. Brevity is the soul of something or other.

Cromulent's got my back. I got no worries.

What the hell is "going meta?" I'm hoping "going meta" makes me seem all smart and stuff. Although if it does, it will be ironic that I am asking the question.

It is, but I seriously doubt it was intentional. Like I said, I don't give her that much credit with her songwriting.

No, no. You are all smart and stuff. I just use it to help me seem all smart and stuff. Superdex was looking for irony within the song, and while there isn't any, you saw the larger irony of the song. The meta-irony of the song.

Edit: It doesn't matter if the irony was intentional, it's still there.

That reminds me of Steven Wright talking about going in to a health food store and asking if they had cotton candy.

When I was a store manager, I was frequently asked to donate prizes to a number of worthy charities. I really don't mean to be insensitive, but I thought it was ironic when I was asked to donate a prize to a silent auction to benefit the hearing impaired. You would think they could have chosen a different type of event to raise money.
