    Experiment

Okay I need you guys to help me with this. It worked for me and nobody believes me (or attempted to try it) so I want you to so I can see if I'm just tripping or something. What you need:

    2 fully charged cell phones
    1 car with 2 remotes
    a second person to help

You and the person go about a block away from each other, one taking the car. The person without the car calls the person with the car. Person with car gets out of car and shuts the door. Person without the car uses remote and aims into mouthpiece of phone. Person with car holds their cell phone near where the brain to the remote is under hood, dash, where ever. See if the door locks or unlocks.

    Does this work for you?

This worked for me. This is good for when I lock my key in and I call the other person who has the spare. Saves them a trip to where I am.

Then why did it work for me? Was I still too close and my remote is strong?

Yep, I can unlock my car from a block and a half away. It's real small, can hide behind a Civic, and listening for the chirp is how I find it in parking lots sometimes.

"The fob that you carry on your keychain or use to open the garage door is actually a small radio transmitter. When you push a button on the fob, you turn on the transmitter and it sends a code to the receiver (either in the car or in the garage). Inside the car or garage is a radio receiver tuned to the frequency that the transmitter is using (300 or 400 MHz is typical for modern systems)."

Right... so how would a cell phone (that operates at 850/950/1800/1900 MHz) suddenly be able to not only transmit your unique code to the receiver in the car(that's listening for a 300 or 400 MHz signal) but do it after receiving the signal from the original fob via another cell phone?
