Had my Sable put to sleep.

Thank you foosters for all the support last week. She ate alright thursday night after coming home from the vet but refused to eat afterward. By friday night she was getting noticably weaker. The vet and I talked twice and decided there just wasn't anything else to try. I wasn't going to watch my baby starve herself to death, she deserved better. This was really hard. The hardest decision I've ever made. She's now in a place just outside the house as close to the head of our bed as possible, right next to our other baby (cat) DC. The house feels really empty. But she's better now and I want to believe I'll see her again someday.

I'm sorry SB. It's hard that animal life spans are so much shorter than ours...it means we pet lovers have to go through this a few times, but its worth the pain for the love they bring and the good life you can give them.

My heartfelt sympathies go to you. When my ex and I lost our first cat, we had her put down too. She had renal failure after a long bout with Cancer. She was a very strong willed and proud cat so one day when it got to the point where she just laid in her litter box we made the call to the Vet's that everyone dreads. I say it was the hardest and easiest decision I ever had to make. She was proud and I like to think she knew it was for the best. She is now under a tree in my backyard watching over me as I'm sure your baby is too.

So sorry, SB... It's always a hard decision, but I really believe you'll find peace with the decision you made. Again, she wasn't alone or in pain, and she was obviously loved.

I'm sorry for your loss, SB. You gave Sable a dignified and painless end, and that is one of the most selfless gifts you could have given her.

That's exactly how I felt after we had to put one of my dogs to sleep. The poor thing was about 6 years old when he developed some kind of hip problem and he could no longer walk with his rear legs. It was the most heart-breaking thing to have to deal with especially since he and I were such good buddies.

When we decided to put him to sleep because of his suffering it simply hurt. But then I slowly thought of how much better he was and I KNEW he was somewhere running at full speed like he liked to do when his legs were okay. I also knew that in time that I would see him again in that place.

Sorry to hear about your Sable, but you did the right thing and she's in a good place now.

I'm sorry to hear that, SoonerBent. My own family had to make that decision recently with our companion of 15 years, Pancho. As Foosters so kindly reminded me at the time, it's important to remember all the good times, and to realise that you made the right decision. My thoughts are with you.

SoonerBent, that is some sad news. I've had the same experience putting down two dogs and a cat after they experienced long and rewarding lives. Cried like a baby each time and it is just horrible. Good luck.

I saw the thread and was prepared to make some snide comment about your car.

I am a little unclear. Was Sable a cat, or a sable?

Sorry to hear about you having to say goodbye to a pet. We were heartsick a few months back when Catnip appeared outside our window (she's been an outdoor cat since we had her) looking like she'd been scalped with blood oozing from between her ears. Miraculously, after some neosporin and some time, you'd never know it had ever happened. At the time though, we were almost certain we were going to lose her, and that all the rodents in the neighborhood would rejoice.

Obviously, pets can't live forever - except for in our memories. Remember to keep Sable immortal.

I went through the same thing this week and i understand where you are at. It gets better but it still is not easy. Remember the good times and pray you will meet again.

In my thoughts,

Chad

I feel your pain. We just did the same thing a month ago (there's thread in here about it) and jeez, it's so freakin' hard. I'm glad you manned up and did the right thing, though. Sable deserved nothing less. The thing is, nobody tells you that doing the right thing still makes you feel like s***.

So sorry for your loss, SB.

Very hard to lose such a close member of the family. My heart goes out to you for your sense of loss and pain. Please don't second-guess yourself. It was time.

Your sorrow is great now. But it does get better. Trust me. ((hugs))
