No comment, other than WTF??!!

I couldn't find any modern day equivalent pics, but just so you get the idea of how disturbing a trend this is. The major difference being the kids (boys) I've seen the past few weeks are wearing some garish neon colored rubber clogs:

I have a feeling that this is the seed that spawns into the majority of neon cazed, uber carbon folk inhabiting the Road Cycling forum. :(

VegaVixen 05-27-07 11:48 PM

I've heard that these shoes are very comfortable, though I've not yet tried them myself (a logistical issue for me), and I think a number of men in RC rock these when out of their clipless shoes.

WTF is the issue here? Comfort is farkin' comfort. I loves me my feet, I refuse to wear "girlie" shoes that hurt my feet just to please someone else, and I congratulate anyone who finds something comfortable to wear. <tryin'-to-understand-the-issue-here Vega look>

sorryyyyy..... I guess they're the only comfortable shoe out there --- my bad.

Yeah, I don't get the problem people have with these shoes either. Okay, they may not win any style contests any time soon (though considering that "ugly" is apparently generally in style these days, maybe they will), but if they're convenient and comfortable, so what? I wear a pair of $2 flip-flops for the same reason. To each their own.

glenng 05-27-07 11:53 PM

Its a trendy thing...but they are comfy from what I hear. I`d rather wear sport sandles personally but I won`t pass judgment on those that like Crocks. Wish I owned the company.

Nice wooden Dutch clogs in that photo. Some good, uh, MALE friends of mine in Belgium wear same in 2007.

People wear what's comfortable. Ever tried these shoes on? I haven't. But, then, I'm not the one makin' an issue of 'em. I gently suggest you try them out first, regardless of color, and decide for yourself if there is any real merit with regard to comfort. I await your comments. :)

With regard to color, though, I got yer back. I go for simple earth tones myself, and would never go for the bright neon colors. If that's all the mfgr offers, then there is something seriously wrong with the marketing group at that company, but not necessarily with the shoe itself. <serious Vega look>

I almost tried to buy a home that was basically right across from the Crocks (Crocs?) owner, but once I saw those shoes on men I didn't want to be his neighbor anymore.

Not that I'M passing judgement or anything :p

Nuttin' to apologize for in my book. I'm jes' tryin' to understand. I'm not really been out in a few years due to some personal issues, and a lot of this is new to me, but, having been on RC for the last seven months, seems that a number of people there recommend them, including men, and so I would try them, first opportunity I have. <shrug>

No, "bad" on anyone's part, baybuh. :)

I think you should go for it. You can probably flip the house for more in a couple of years. ;)

Don't worry, you haven't missed much.

VegaVixen 05-28-07 12:20 AM

Such a relief. I'm apparently up-to-date on my dialup, and I have my old Walkman to carry me through trainer sessions. :)

Here's to not having much to catch up on! :) ;)

Urm. Is there anything else happening, besides the innovation of these shoes, out in the wider world I should know about since Feb. '04? <curious and rather ignorant Vega look>

bikingshearer 05-28-07 12:50 AM

I don't know about anyone else, but if I wore crocs, or crocks, or croques, or whatever, they would be a pair of walking puddles in about 3.625 minutes. Plastic and/or rubber and my feet is not happy combination.

VegaVixen 05-28-07 12:53 AM

Heh. BS, you are one upfront fella! :)

Urm. 3.625 minutes? From where did this particular time reference come? <curious Vega look>

bikingshearer 05-28-07 12:56 AM

Years of research.

jsharr 05-28-07 06:51 AM

Both of my sons love them. They are easy on, easy off, easy to clean. They stay on better than flip flops for sandals, so much so that you can run in them. They are the best "post ride, something to put on after the cleats come off" shoes that I have ever worn. May be butt ugly, but so am I, so that aren't hurting anything.

Thomas4321 05-28-07 06:58 AM

I'm going to agree with Jeff. Crocs are pretty comfortable. Both of my kids have them and love them. My son even has a pair in a non-neon shade of beige. I have a black pair that I keep at the lab so that I don't have to carry shoes when I commute. They're cheap and highly functional.

blonduathlongrl 05-28-07 07:05 AM

too funny! Im on the camp of hate them shoes!!! I have talked about those in maby other threads, I really dislike them, they are OK on girls but I dislike them so much on me, son? never mind that, grown up men wear them all the time and they are so fugly to me!

Tom Stormcrowe 05-28-07 07:06 AM

Walmart even carries clones for 1/4 the price and likely come off the same molds.

barba 05-28-07 07:08 AM

man clogs are where it is at.

mine were about half the price of real crocs, got them at Payless, they are actually Airwalks of some sort. So yeah, I agree with the OP, Crocs suck.

ajay677 05-28-07 07:41 AM

What about the dreaded 'foot farts'?

SingingSabre 05-28-07 08:06 AM

Comfortable, decently supportive shoes for not too much money. Sounds good to me.

Taerom 05-28-07 08:08 AM

I see lots of people wearing those to class around here. I think I'll stick with my Asics though...

catatonic 05-28-07 08:18 AM

I'll stick with my trusty crusty old pair of vans
