Help--I need the cheapest 6-pack available on the East Coast!

So a teammate of mine is throwing a party tomorrow night, and there's a competition to see who can bring the cheapest 6-pack of beer. The only caveats are that I need to bring a receipt, and I need to drink one can of said 6-pack to be eligible to win.

I guess I have the advantage of living in a college town, but what brands should I be looking for? Too bad generic beer doesn't exist anymore...

It's been many, many years, but Schlitz was the cheapest around where I lived in 1980 or so.

I have seen Milwaukee's Best as low as $4.50 for a 12 pack! So technically you are paying $2.25 for a 6 pack

If it's still around, we were buying Schmidt's summer of '80 in VA @ $0.99 /6 pack. The carton screamed "try Joe's beer", and so we did, many times.

edit: a liitle search reveals this sad fact: "The Christian Schmidt Brewing Company closed in 1987 after 127 years of operating in Philadelphia"

Pabst is brewing a beer under this name, but not in Philly.

Oooh... I totally forgot about this East Coast wonder:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Bohemian

Apparently I need to be under 3 dollars to be competitive...

Hamm's. Their advertising phrase was, "Refreshing As The Land Of Sky Blue Waters," whatever that is supposed to mean. It's printed on the cans, too. Cheap beer, I'm talking dirt cheap.

Define cheapest.

Per fluid OZ? Or does ABV count? If so, Natural ice @6% FTW.

I don't know if it's actually the cheapest, but Natty Ice has got to be the worst I've ever had.

Lowest price. Alcohol content is a non-issue for this one. Cheapest 6-pack of beer I can find. I mean, I guess it has to have enough alcohol to be called beer, but other than that...

I do, but they usually don't sell the rock-bottom cheap crap there. Except there is this whole line of hard liquor called "Military Special." Something like 5 or 6 bucks for one of those big half-gallon lookin' bottles of whiskey/gin/vodka. I've never had the courage.

Can you bring two 40's instead? That's almost seven beers, and I'm pretty sure you could score a couple of OE's or King Cobras for less than $3.

Whatever the cheapest is, I would suggest you drive over to WV - the TAX is cheaper than MD's, which will lower your overall purchase (so long as no one is factoring gas in...). You can also pop into Cooper's Rock and hit some trails....

I remember when I was a kid, my parents would shop at this place called Pak N Save. They had this beer that was just a yellow can, with the word "BEER" printed in black, faux-stencil letters. I don't remember how much it was, but I can't imagine it was much. I guess they didn't bother to make up frilly brand names to make you feel better about buying store-brand items back then.

"American Beer". It's a tan can with an eagle on it. It's about $5 per case.

when i was in VT for school, I actually found no frills beer. 2 bucks a six, and cold or warm, made you want to puke, But we drank it because we were broke, dumb college kids.

Does a picture of you taking a six pack out of your brother in law's fridge qualify as a "receipt"?

(Not that I'm calling you a weasel or anything! That's just one of the better pictures that came up from a Google image search for "stealing beer".)

This is easy! Just find a place sleazy enough that they'd agree to fake a receipt for you. Do make sure to avoid local places where your friends might visit and call your bluff...

My college roommate drank some sort of foul fermented swill named Stag. Sub $2 for a 6-er. I don't think it passed any kinds of quality control, however.
