Trying to find my parents.

I was adopted. I would really like to find my parents, but I have no information to start with, as all adoption records in the state of Georgia are sealed and can't be opened without a court order. I've looked at some stuff online, but it seems most of the stuff I've found the people at least had some information, a name etc. All I have is my birthday and the name of the hospital where I was born. Can someone help point me in the right direction?

If you don't feel comfortable replying to this thread pm me.

Also, has anyone heard of the ALMA society? click ?

My dad and uncle were reunited with their bio family after 50 years.

What can happen is that they will contact them for you since you by law can't see the confidential info yourself. Once they contact them, if they want to meet you, it won't be hard to arrange.

The thing is, many agencies that claim to specialize in this only specialize in ripping people off. You gotta find a good company to do the detective work, otherwise you'll end up getting nowhere and shelling out hundreds of dollars. If needed, I can ask my dad who they used.

That's one thing that I'm worried about, it's easy for a scam artist to play off of something emotional.

I'm pretty sure there are web sites which address this problem, and some of them probably have forums which further address the scam situation. You might want to check some of those sites out, and see what other people have run into.

(ps - It's not me!)

Okay, lemme call him up.

Edit: He's not answering right now. I'll find out as soon as possible, and PM the info to you.

Talked to him just now, but its been 6 years so he doesn't know off hand. He's gonna try and find out though. He said that as far as he knows, these guys mostly do michigan work, but they would probably be able to refer you to someone who would be good for your case.

As best as I know its not real complicated, there is a data base with all this info on it, the confidential intermediary or whatever they are called looks it up, and makes some calls.

Odds are there is some placement agency. I was adopted, and my birth mother found me. It was much easier that way. All she had to do was contact the placement agency. They contacted their last known address (still my parents phone number) saying there was an inquiry. It was up to me if I wanted to share my contact info with them. I sent a notarized form back, and ended up with my birth mother's info left on my voice mail.

It has been very cool-- she is entirely normal... and it is like having an extra aunt.

Another bizarre twitch that I discovered--- there were actually two birth certificates involved- one with my birth mother listed, and the other with my adoptive parents (that was reissued). I could have located her through the BC as well.

I recommend you try to find the agency--- there are usually a few, like Children's Home and LSS in the region I was born.

It should not cost you a dime.

Worst case scenario: contact a talk show host!

I used to be in a slightly similar situation. My father high-tailed it out when my mom announced she was pregnant. I was raised by my mom and step-father. I had never met or even seen a picture (mom destroyed them all before I was born) of my real father. It was nothing against my step-father, but I had an interest to meet my real father.

I did some basic searching (this is all back pre-internet time) and had no luck.

Then one day it kind of dawned on me........
1. My family did NOT go into witness protection
2. My "real" father should have looked for me if he gave half a sh1t
3. I had a "real" dad already who was more father/dad that the "sperm donor" who knocked up my mom ever would be.

I no longer give a sh1t if I ever see him or even if he's alive.

Termite does have a point, but then there's always the medical history thing. Then again, the OP was adopted, not abandoned - big difference there, KT.

Best of luck. I was also adopted, but from the Phillipines. There's info on my mother should I ever be interested, but nada on the father. I really haven't been interested though, but i applaud those who do make the effort.

I have a friend who was adopted at 3 months. He had similar thought, but like KT, he realized that he already knew who his real parents were and there was no need to know who his biological parents were.

It's possible that my birth parents tried to find me but couldn't. Due to some circumstances I didn't have a SSN until I was 17.

I know that feeling. I was born in the Phillipines and adopted by Americans when I was 3 months old. Then when I turned 19, I found out I wasn't a citizen, nor a resident. Supposedly I was naturalized when they came state side when I was 2, but all that happened is that I went far enough into the system that I no longer needed a green card, but wasn't a citizen. I did have a SS # though. Upon finding that out, I was basically told I was illegal and to keep out of trouble and go through the process. Having done that, I feel for immigrants who go through the process. It's a bunch of beaurocratic BS where people are treated like cattle.

Neither my dad nor my uncle remember, nor do they have any records they could look up.

The good news is that I bet you could find a forum, or some other web resource which could give you some vastly better info anyway.
