Jury Duty

Have you ever been sent a notice to appear for jury duty selection? I'm not asking if you have ever actually served on a jury, just notified that you may be selected.

I'm 44 and never have. My son turned 18 last year and has been picked twice. ??? ???

Never for me, though that may be due to my peripatetic nature.

I have a jury duty notice at the moment that I haven't replied to yet. I can't perform jury duty because of my job.

Notified twice. Served once. Just got notice #2 about 3 weeks ago, so I might get called again. (I'm 40 though. Last time was over 10 years ago.)

Most states have limits on how often you can be called up. Maybe there's a computer glitch. An 18 year-old being notified twice doesn't sound right.

I was called for jury duty in another state when I lived there. I was seated on a jury and was selected as foreman. In this state I have been called twice and was seated once. But, the case was disposed before it was concluded. In the case for which I was not seated, the victim of a knife attack got some unsolicited advice from friends of the perp. and decided not to testify for the long term benefit of his personal health. The case went no farther. My wife has been called a couple of times here, too.

It works differently here than it did in the other state. There we were called and had to appear. If not selected we went home, but could be selected again before the end of the month. Here you phone a recorded announcement after 5 PM to see if you number is given as one of those who must appear the next day. You can plan nothing more than a few hours ahead for an entire month.

Notified somewhere between 6 - 10 times in 46 years. Served twice, although only seated on a jury once, the second time they sent us home after waiting in a holding tank for six hours. (Pretty odd way to fulfill my civic duty, but what the heck...)

The first few times I got notified I avoided having to serve by simply checking the Yes box on the "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" question. But I finally got curious enough to sincerely want to serve...which happened to coincide with a period of unemployment, so the $15/day was welcome.

I've never received a civilian notification but have been assigned as a member of a military courts-martial on a capital case.

I have been notified four times.

The first time I ended up in the jury pool for a month (served on two juries).

The second time I wrote a letter asking to be excused due to the my job (I was on the road quite a bit at that time). They excused me.

The third time I wrote another letter asking to be excused. They deferred me for two months.

The fourth time I was in the jury pool for a month, but never served on a jury.

Been notified to attend jury selection about 3 times but served only once. Thought it was an educational experience but wouldn't want to do it again.

I've been notified before, but my usual disqualifying answer is that I'm not a US Citizen.

Never have. Could be because I was born in Germany and lived there for 2 years.

It could also be because I am a spiteful little ****.

3 times ....I am 34.

But the last time probably doesn't count since the wrong county sent it to me. Many places do it according to your voting status. If you haven't registered to vote, you won't get called.

I know a guy who isn't registered to vote for just that reason. Yup, you guessed it, he complains about everyone who gets elected.

I'm 40 and have never been called. I don't feel like I've been missing out either. Been a registered and participating voter since I was 18 too.

It is a pretty dumb reason. I got notified three times. First time my number wasn't called. Second time, number called, but the case got dismissed so we all went home after an hour or two. Third time, it was the wrong county so I didn't have to go. All this in 16 years. It really is no big deal.

Twice, both when in my 20s.

How's this for odds. You know how in college you MUST go to 1st class so you are not dropped from the class?

I got called twice, two years in a row and BOTH times on the first day of classes for school.

Not selected for anything 1st time, was selected for a jury the 2nd time, but the parties settled out of court minutes before case started. Judge called everybody in and then scolded the hell out of the attorneys for not setting before wasting everybody's time (and taxpayer's money).
