And experts warned obese people were more likely to develop heart problems in the first place.

Well, in certain circumstances, high cholesterol can be a lifesaver as well. I can't cite it, but here in Lafayette, a man had an aneurysm pop in his skull last year and survived it because a big bunch of arterial plaque dislodged and sealed the aneurysm like a self repairing tire.......

Odds of this happening are around 1,000,000,000,000,000:1, by the way! Too bad he didn't buy a lottery ticket as well, eh?

What are the combined odds of him winning the lottery as well?

I have no idea, but it can't be that different! Far better chance of winning the lottery, I can assure you! That's only 3,000,000:1

the bigger you are the harder you heart works...hence a stronger heart for its short lived existance. bigger people will probably notice more problems with arteries than the heart itself...I suppose a big man with low cholesterol would live a long healthy life.

Just keep in mind that it's more likely that one will get these vascular and heart problems if one is obese. Just because the odds are more favorable in the post-event treatment for obese people doesn't mean it's a good idea to be overweight.

    Yeah, that's two independent variables:

    1. 100,000 obese have heart-attack = 25,000 survive after 3-years (75,000 dead)
    2. 10,000 normal BMI have heart-attack = 5,000 survive after 3-years (5,000 dead)

Sure, the percentage of obese surviving may be higher, but A LOT MORE of them had heart-attacks in the 1st place.

You are absolutely correct - this is called being able to see the forest for the trees.

Which of course means that if you have a heart attack due to smoking which you are doing to keep your weight down, well, you got a big problem.

ok, I released a thread into the wild and it's free to go where it will, but for the record I wasn't actually advocating being fat, eh?

    that's all, party on people
