Somebody blindfold me please?

Hehe, related to an entry in my blog. You know that saying about romance, that it usually happens when your not looking for it? Well how do you not look for it dangit?

I thought I'd start a thread about all your romances that happened when it was totally the last thing on your mind.

I met a girl once when I was under a desk installing computer stuff at work. Suddenly I hear this voice, and I was compelled to look up to see who it was. We ended up dating for nearly a year - totally the last thing on my mind when it happened though.

I'm on my way then.

A while back I had a girl actually ask me on a 1st date (that was already a car wreck at this point), "so, you're 37 and haven't ever been married. What's wrong with you?" My response was,"well, you're 35 and have been married twice. What's wrong with you?"

Date over.

Last time I wasn't looking, I met the man who became my husband, and spent the next 17 years with him.

LOL.....Good answer!!

My last "not looking for it" was when I just broke up with a girlfriend I'd been with 2 years. Crazy woman....lived with her the last year. I wasn't just "not looking" at that point, I was "specifically avoiding" to try to clear my head and find the real me that I felt I'd lost once again.

I started going to this little group on Wednesday nights.....wasn't that into it, but it was a way to hang out with people rather than being alone. Part of what I liked about it was that it was only guys. It wasn't restricted to only guys, it just so happened it was only guys (about 5 to 7 of us regularly).

One week two girls were there. One girl I knew and a friend she brought. I thought her friend seemed cool. I didn't have any romantic feelings toward her, she just seemed cool like she'd be cool to hang out with. Well, I was distracted at work all week that next week. At home, I couldn't seem to concentrate on anything I did either. Then when the next Wednesday rolled around, it dawned on me what was making me have trouble concentrating. I was thinking about that girl, CONSTANTLY, but subconsciously. Kinda weird.

Ok....I'll stop the story there....it answered the original question. The way I was "not trying" was by specifically "avoiding" at that point because I'd just broken up a two year relationship.

You never know. I wasn't looking when my friend set me up on a blind date. Entering into an unknown situation, I had numerous egress options set up to get the hell out of dodge and save myself from any pain and suffering. That ended being my first and LAST blind date. 22 years later, I have not found the need for another date since I married her.

You should have atleast bumped your head. Everytime I'm at work under the desk and messing with the computer, Someone startles me and I bump my head...

Te best things happen when you sort of stop caring. I was ready to dump my girlfriend when the relationship seemed like it was on hold. I had asked her to marry me the year before and she said no. Then literally the week before my planned breakup she asks me to marry her. Never been happier and that's 5 years ago.

People of both genders can tell people actively looking, and instinctively take cover.

I hate it when people quantify a person's life by whether or not he/she has been married. I'm a 37 year-old spinster and damn proud! Nothing wrong with me other than I don't wish to be a twice over divorcee!

So you are crawling around under desks looking for love? I usually just get slapped really hard then thrown out of the office by security when I try that.

Was at church with my sister and her friend when I spotted her, I think i murmured she's cute and upon hearing this my sisters friend ran over, told her, and dragged her back. That was 6 years ago and we where married a couple of weeks ago.. It just happened.

Here, here!!

I'm a happily single 36 year old...and I hate when people assume that everybody's all end goal "must" be to get married and procreate.

ravenmore - pretend like you're already dating someone. Seems like whenever I'm in a relationship all the girls I was interested in and never seemed to give me the time of day come out of the woodwork.

Or take up yoga.

Ain't that the truth - what's up with that? Dating someone and they're everywhere, single and you might as well have girl stink on you or something... Pffft.

I was home on leave for a month before going overseas for three years in the military. My mom introduced me to a friend of the family (that I somehow didn't know) and we hit it off from that night on. I knew the moment I talked to her that she was going to be in my life for a long time. On July 6th that will be two years ago and even though I've been away the whole time we talk everyday and see each other a few times a year. Let's hope in a year when I get home there'll still be an attraction. Needless to say, a few months before leaving the country nobody is looking to meet someone new.

Looking for love under desks is a step up from looking for love under rocks. I've done that too in my younger days. Usually there was a bottle of tequila involved....
