I just got an iPhone!!!

Well I don't have it in my hand yet I wanted to gloat anyway. I work for Apple in their education division and Steve Jobs just gave everyone in the company 8GB iPhones. They'll be handing them out in July. I'm not really a gadget head but I can't help but be excited.

Nice job perk! Personally, I couldn't afford to use it as news reports put the monthly bill for one at $100-$120.

Unfortunate that you can't list it on eBay tomorrow and get in on the early crazed resale prices reminiscent of of the Furby and Tickle Me Elmo...

$59.99 with 450 minutes and it comes with unlimited internet access (e-mail and data)...

It is certainly going to be a revolutionary device. The touch interface similar to Microsoft.com\surface will/is be used in different LCD screens for regular computers...the eye candy animation of every action (shuffeling CD covers, zooming into pictures) is killer...the few drawbacks, battery cannot be replaced (300-400 charges) (although I'm sure you can take it apart) and it has to be sent to Apple....no memory expansion (eh....8GB is a nice number and I'm sure they will come out with a 16GB)...

the biggest negative is the Cingular Edge network used for e-mail and Internet...40 kbps....it will be like dialup (or even worse)...should've gone 3G...

Safari does not support (on the IPhone) Flash or Java so the Youtube player had to be built to allow to display Youtube videos which are in flash...

Steve Jobs is on the board of Disney. Maybe he'll give me one too. (wishful thinking )

AFAIK at least for developers that damn thing is locked down, the iPhone and it's OSX is a laugh in the face of every programmer out there. All this boasting, all the hype and they lock the thing down.

Someone needs to hack that thing and shove Linux on it or something.

Anyway, it costs like $2k more than my current setup for the 2 year contract, screw that. I'll stick with my cheapo java-based phone that I can program for.

whoops too slow with the edit - sorry decided the comment really was too smart a$$ to stay - anyway, not looking for a new phone for a while yet as my brick of a pda phone seems, touch wood, to be going strong.

Well *I* just heard that all Macintosh owners who can prove they have owned a Mac since 1990, or earlier, will be given a free iPhone . . . a reward for undying loyalty.

I'M IN BABY!!!

Dealing with older versions of the Mac OS, they deserve it.

I've used it on and off for a long time. OSX is such an improvement most current day mac users wouldn't believe. I mean... they were okay, but compared to OSX... they were crap.

Of course compared with OSX they were inferior. But compared with Windows of their day it was a joke people were even buying PCs . . . . the Mac OS was WAY superior.

Does it have a lock blade knife? If it doesn't at least have a knife tool that thing is useless.

You know, this also says something of his brilliance. He's pleasing employees and creating a very large advertising base by doing this.

Ugh, can i be in love with a CEO in a non-gay way?

Windows NT and Windows 2000 blew OS9< it out of the water. But then again that was back when Apple had a definate edge over multimedia processing power, so it evened it out.

Windows for workgroups and its children software was garbage. Good thing that stuff is long dead.

As for when we were running 98, frankly I didn't want to use both Windows or Mac OS and wanted to go back to OS2 or even MS-DOS. Linux was pretty popular then as "the replacement" and I could see why.

Awesome.
Apple is doing better than Microsoft whom they criticize so sharply. Create a phone that lasts for barely a year and make people pay 400 bucks for it and charge them twice the monthly fee and give them 1/2 to 1/3 to 1/100th the features - Considering i can get unlimited talk time any time for 40 a month
And they have people begging for it.

My next cell phone will be just a simple phone. I used to like hi-tech but I`m starting to burn out. Steve Jobs has figured out how to take money from the "average Joe`s" pocket. How can a fancy phone make your life happier?

uh huh. if this were true...

how would i prove it? i still have my first Mac (a Ray Ban, for those who know Apple code names), and it still boots. but that's not "proof." plus, i've got plenty of Macs older (and newer).

heck, i've got at least a dozen 68k machines - around 50/50 compact/modular... i bought a MacTV, darnit!

yeah, we deserve an iPhone. but it needs to be a special model that can run 6.0.8 in emulation (including MultiFinder, of course).
