They will all be standing in line a year from now too when their iPhone's iBattery that can't be iReplaced, iDies. But that is par for the course with Mac. Make the initial product inferior but extra shiny so that demand can be generated for the replacement product in the next fiscal year.

The iPhone will no doubt revolutionize communications in the same way that the Segway has revolutionized transportation.

The funniest thing is watching Chicago cops on Segways. "Hey, don't run away Mr. Mugger! The donuts are weighing down my Segway! Hmmm... better iPhone in for backup...."

Contrary to apparently popular thought, I'm sure it will be a perfectly fine device. The interface and the build quality will no doubt be just fine, and it will work as intended, maybe with a few firmware updates to work some bugs out. Apple tends to make fine products, for the most part, especially when you tune out the little problems getting blown way out of proportion ("cracks" in the G4 Cube case, the batteries in the iPod, etc.).

That said, I just really have no interest whatsoever in this device as it is. I don't need or want a cellular phone to do most of the things the iPhone does, and to be honest, I don't even really see the appeal in a lot of it. But hey, if it floats people's boats, more power to 'em. *shrug*

Now, if Apple were to sell this device with all of the telephone functionality stripped out, and the ability to load applications enabled, leaving a portable, reasonably-priced, 802.11-enabled computer, I'd be all over it. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Haha I totally know what you mean. I usually laugh at cops on Segways. They just look so ridiculous. I know for a fact that the line at the Apple store in our Loop has a line around the block.

I doubt they can catch a cyclist. If they can then bravo.

If it's anything like the "irreplaceable" iPod battery, it will be easily replaceable, using first- and third-party batteries.

I might ride through the Loop and past that area today. If so, I'll take a picture for you.

    My problems:
Overpriced for features (but its Apple, kind of expected)
Apple "cult" (the people who feel that getting an iPhone is a social movement)
    Form over function (ugh)

Anyway, its ok, when I don't think about the price tag its pretty neat, just I know I wont hear the end of it from Apple fanboys.

They can barely catch a decent runner.

Last time I heard aobut cops using Segways, they ditched them after they found that they would crash trying to go up radiused-edge curbs.

I think the iPhone is going to absolutely murder sales of Sidekicks because they are marketed to the bling-me-up types who prefer looks over anything else. However, time will tell if it will horn in on Blackberry or Windows Mobile smartphones. I don't think it will make too much of a dent on the WM6 market because of corporate execs, and people who have custom applications and games.

Hardware-wise, its not a bad device. I'd love to have 4-8 gigs of flash storage in a Windows Mobile device, so I can use my URGE subscription with more than just my generic DnCTech MP3 player. However, just like Macs, the hardware is decent, although the fanboism rubs me the wrong way.

I hope HTC, Samsung, and other OEM mobile phone makers can take the hint, make a decent Windows Mobile 6 PocketPC or Smartphone with comparable features. At least put in 2-8 gigs of flash RAM, and G3. Even better, allow a phone to run on both GSM and CDMA, like the Samsung IP-830w.

Sums up my thoughts pretty much.

Besides, I already have my pocket set:

Would you like a dream with that?

Its the people we can't shut up that must tell us about their Apple products every 34.27 seconds that drives us mad.

I am in the unfortunate position to deal with the abundance of dumbasses running out and buying these things expecting gods touch. The "don't buy one" argument doesn't hold much water to be honest. The peons will run out and expect the best and then come crashing down when they realize its a phone with a fancy screen. When that happens they never cry to mommy, its their closest IT buddy.
