Things to do in Chicago

Hi folks

Miguelangel's thread reminded me that I need some travel help too :]

I'll be in Chicago Aug 15 - Aug 20, and was wondering if anybody has suggestions on places to go.
I'm going to a Cubs game, but would love to go to a nice blues club or jazz bar, or a festival. Is there a nice area around lake Michigan where one could walk? Or a kinda more trendy/popular street with restaurants and pubs where lots of people go? I'm not that into tourist-oriented sight-seeing like a tour of the city or visit to the Sears tower

I'll have a rental car, so distance is not much of an issue

Any info is much appreciated! Tnanks

I've been there, and I'm sorry to say, it's the most boring place I've ever visited, at least in my opinion. But I'm a hillbilly red neck by blood, so it's not like tons of people won't disagree with me. Sports would be cool if you're into them. (I'm not so much, only watch the world series and stanley cup playoffs) Only things I liked at all were the Natural History Museum and that Aquarium.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Check out Rush Street! Great clubs!

There is a bike path along Lake Michigan that's pretty cool!

Isn't this Ms. Gio's neck of the woods? Your turn to chime in.

AHHHHH. MY BRAIN IS NOW BROKEN.

Chicago is NOT BORING.

Places to look if you'd like to find neato stuff to do:

http://www.gapersblock.com is a wonderful blog about Chicago. They always have a list of things going on on a nightly basis. With a calendar, even.

For restaurants, take a look at http://www.yelp.com User reviewed stuff.

I would reccomend clubs, but I am not a blues club kind of girl. I also LOATHE Rush street and avoid it like the plague. If you like jazz, check out the Green Mill. You honestly can't get better jazz then there, and the bar itself is a gem.

Hmmm.

What do you like? Where are you staying? I can tell you LOTS of stuff to do, but even with a car, I don't want to tell you stuff you would hate.

I love my city more than anything, so I get all sad when people don't like it here.

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. It's just across the state line.
