"Revenge is a dish best served cold..."

Comes from the French novel "Les Liaisons dangereuses" ... Dangerous Liasons. Could any one give me an example of what "served cold" represents or how it would look?

For example, served hot might be a moment of passion act of anger and frustration. Such as shooting your wife and her lover when you find them in bed together. Apparently, this is legal in Texas, can anyone confirm?

Revenge served warm/tepid could be a more prolonged revenge. Such as pretending to be friends with someone and extracting information for which you can use to hang them, such as getting them fired or thrown in jail.

Revenge served cold. What's this?

I take it the temperatures has to do with your feelings in the moment? If you're not feeling anything for them, no anger, no bitterness, no resentment but you do it anyway, is that revenge served cold?

To me, it means you get them much later, when they're not expecting it. Sort of like food you cooked yesterday to serve today (potato salad etc.). However I suppose it could also mean when you are calm and can plan a more sophisticated attack.

your revenge served tepid/warm seems to be an example of revenge served cold.

Yes, revenge served cold means you calculate your payback without emotion.

The way I heard a long time ago was.

When setting out for revenge dig two graves first theirs & yours, by the time you have dug your own grave, you may not be so willing for revenge.

To me it is more like not in the heat off the moment when your emtions are clouding your clear thinking.

Or something like that.

That's why you don't bury bodies to dispose of them. It takes too long. Get rid of them in the ocean. Much easier, and it's a lot harder for someone to stumble across.

To me it's cold because you waited until they thought they were clear. It's cold because to the unsuspecting receiver of said karma boomerang they never expect it.

btw, that rule is definitely a good one. There's *nothing* like the joy of serving it cold.

That one's especially nice when served cold.

I likes my revenge like I likes my gespacho soup.

I'm not. That doesn't make a lot of sense. If you have no emotion invested anymore then you do not wish revenge.

The revenge is served cold, not coldly.

Maybe that's overstated. I don't think Mariner fan means "without motion" like he said.....the way I think of it, is without "passion". It's calculated, deliberate, planned and one doesn't get excited or passionate about it, they just do it - period.

What if you used the sliced pepperoni to spell "revenge" on top of you pizza prior to baking? Would this be best served hot or cold?

Served cold is the best kind of revenge outside of living your life well and ignoring the other party.
Served cold basically means calm and thoughtful and well after the fact. As in "Cold and calculating".
This is the kind of revenge that you get when someone thinks the whole thing is blown over and forgotten.

The bad part about this kind of revenge is the time between the original offense and the revenge. It can eat away at you.

IU like this definition best: Devoid of sympathy or feeling. Much like the cold shoulder or cold heart.
